A late call it was, but it came. She indicated it was heartfelt. Let it lie.

Making a condolence call was expected. Someone died by bullets meant for another. The family will mourn the day, now, tomorrow, and forever.

So, will the Crooke family that raised the kid who fired the shots—grief of a different kind as well as the loss of a son.

The two other injured now face a lifetime of similar grief over the trauma that took place and need time to heal as well. Lost wages, medical bills, and unexpected tribulations for what should have been an afternoon moment of excited participation in a political rally.

The heartbroken widow of Corey Comperatore, the hero firefighter shot dead by a sniper at a Donald Trump rally, wanted nothing to do with President Biden when he called after the tragedy, she told The Post.

“I didn’t talk to Biden,” Helen Comperatore said from her Pennsylvania home Monday. “I didn’t want to talk to him. My husband was a devout Republican and he would not have wanted me to talk to him.”
Corey Comperatore, a beloved volunteer firefighter and married father of two, was at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pa., on Saturday with his family when deranged sniper Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, opened fire.
A bullet struck the former president in the ear, two rallygoers were wounded and Corey Comperatore was killed in the gunfire.
Helen Comperatore said it was supposed to be an “exciting day” for the family to support Trump.
When the shots rang out, her husband instinctively shouted, “Get down,” and used his body to shield his family from the sniper’s bullets — and it cost him his life.

Late?

How do you know

What is late
The shooting was on Saturday. Trump's contact call was on Tuesday. Three days later.

Biden's call was the day of the shooting. She refused his call, as noted previously, due to her husband's staunch Republican beliefs. She felt that taking the President's call would not be what her husband wanted her to do.

How do I know? The NY Times article on the 16th interviewed her. She provided information about Trump's call.

What is late? When Trump was bragging about his narrow escape from death, his tight shoes, his wanting to continue the speech despite the death and the other injuries after he left the hospital, a reporter asked on Saturday if he had spoken to the widow yet. He turned to a staffer and said get the numbers. It took until Tuesday to make the call. That is late, given he could have called sooner but didn't.

There was no mention of calls to the other families injured, and I have not seen an article about those individuals.

So in your opinion it was a late call. Did the NYT report that the family complained that it was a late call?

There are many reasons why Trump waited to call until Tuesday. None of which we will know anything about and none of which even matter. I know that if I was in that situation and I just lost my spouse to an assassin’s bullet, the last thing on my mind would be waiting by the phone for President Trump to call me. I’m sure she had more important things on her mind.

Yes, it is my opinion.

If you believe the call wasn't late or otherwise, that's fine. If a President could reach out on day one, so could an ex-president or even the next day, given that he was just wounded on Saturday. It's an observation based on Trump's actions immediately after the event.

First, he addressed his public image as his priority, and it wasn't until a reporter asked about speaking or offering condolences to the others that Trump stopped to think about them. Typical Donald Trump and the narcissistic nature of the man. There are volumes about his character and his lack of concern for others on the matter. No one can refute those well-documented issues.

Of course, no one said she complained. Why are you asking? Do you want to berate my statement as an attempt to shade Trump for something he could have done earlier but didn't?

She was gracious and reiterated that she held no malice about Biden or felt it was in any way caused by Biden regarding that first contact on Saturday. With regard to Trump, in fact, she said, according to the article, Trump said he would keep in contact, as I mentioned elsewhere. She took the time to respond to reporters about both men even amidst her grief, although she and her daughters certainly did have more important things to address. That also speaks well of her. She deserves to be respected and allowed privacy in her grief. That she had to contend with politics at the same time is sad.

To reiterate my words from this thread:

"A late call it was, but it came. She indicated it was heartfelt. Let it lie.

"Making a condolence call was expected. Someone died by bullets meant for another. The family will mourn the day, now, tomorrow, and forever.

"So, will the Crooke family that raised the kid who fired the shots—grief of a different kind as well as the loss of a son."

Yes, there are many reasons Trump might not have made the call. One of them relates to his character, at the very least. As for Mrs. Corey Comperatore, none of them matter at all.

If Biden had taken three days to call and Trump had done so on the day, you would have thought it was late.
He only thought to call the loser and sucker because a reporter asked him if he was ever going to.

"I don't care about you, I just want your votes."
