Some tips....

Eat smaller meals throughout the day instead of 3 ji-huge-ic meals.
A good one is the old farmstead type cycle, a light breakfast, a mid morning snack, a huge lunch/dinner, and a light sundown meal. It gives your body the peak of the day to burn your calories, and at night you don't have alot of wasted calories in you while you sleep.
Another tip is to eat nothing after 7pm if you sleep by 11pm. You got to time your last intake of food so it burns off by bedtime.
It's like a bank account, don't put in more than you take out, or you'll get a surplus! (i.e. calories!) :D

Good luck. We do have a weight-loss support thread that I've seen within the last 6 months that has a lot of stuff on it. You should bump it up and read it, as well as...

Oprah...brown sugah......

When you ride the type of Harley I got, you can't be a full figured biker with this 8" wide bike seat! Plus, everyone in my family has a weight problem but me. I see them having health problems, and want to avoid that type of life. Another good read is; http://www.blood-type-diet.com/

Anyone have any? Seriously?

All good tips so far -- even watching Oprah.

The one thing I haven't seen mentioned is that whatever you eat, make sure it's a balanced diet.

Fad diets that concentrate on a specific food/food group are more likely to mess up your metabolism than produce any permanent weight loss.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to start your diet with a complete physical. Some diseases and conditions can affect the success or failure of a diet, and dieting can cause some diseases/conditions to kill you. Know where you're starting from so you can plot a good course to health and weightlessness. ;)

Actually, I disagree with a bit of what LC posted.

From what I've read, your body can only metabolize a certain amount of calories at a time, so there should be NO real big meal. Try to stick to 5 or 6 meals/snacks per day.

I've heard that yogurt is a good bedtime snack, because it has protein to carry you through the night, but is still pretty light in your stomach.

1) Make sure you eat breakfast. If you don't eat something within the first 45minutes to an hour (i think) of when you get up you stunt your body's metabolism for all day long. If you eat a breakfast then your body will burn more calories than if you don't.
2) Start some sort of exercise regimen. No matter how simple. Some easy ones to start with are light walking in the evenings/mornings or on your lunch break. Don't take the elevator at work, walk the stairs. Take a walk in a nearby park on your breaks. If walking isn't your thing, try light weightlifting. If you know anyone who is into it, or with a little research (or get in touch with me) you can set up a plan to do whatever goals you have. The thing is don't start out too intensely. Burn-out is too easy in the first steps. The exercise burns the calories and will increase your muscle mass. That is important b/c not only does muscle take up less room in your body than fat (its denser) it burns a hella lot more calories while you're sitting at your desk or whatever. Also start out only 3 times or so a week and stretch some before hand & after. (the stretching will relax you and will also make some more interesting sex positions possible)
3) Eat in moderation. The multiple small meals will burn more calories than 3 somewhat equal ones. However, don't say you CAN"T have something. Just know what your weaknesses are and limit it. Use your favorite foods to reward yourself. As in...if you stay on track all week and exercise 3 times on the weekend maybe during the big football/basketball game or one of the evenings. Don't go nuts, just enough that you feel a little naughty.

The Rainbow Diet....

Actually it shouldn't be a "diet" but a new approach to eating that stays with you.

Eat a wide variety of foods....the more colors in your diet the better chance of balance.

Limit carbohydrates, moderate fat and choose healthy sources of protein.

Eat small amounts frequently (you've heard that one here already.) Avoid fasting....tells the body to conserve and slows down the metabolism.

LC's right about bedtime eating....slows the metabolism right down also.

Speed up the metabolism with regular exercize. Walking will do. (Or just have LOTS of WILD sex.)

If you take a multivite look for one with chromium, a micronutrient that aids fat metabolism.

When you're hungry and it's not time to eat....guzzle water.

Popcorn with nutritional yeast, a spray of veg. oil and a sprinkle of garlic and parmesan for the munchies.

An easy way to get in a little more exercise

is park as far away from where you are going as possible - across the parking lot - you'll have to do more walking.

And the stairs instead of the elevator is a good suggestion too - I've started the new year with 2 flights in the morning and 8 flights after lunch! It's hard but I'm working on it.

water lots of water. cut out any other drink and you will find just doing that will cut a ton of calories. then do the small 5 meals. This is what I am doing. ohh and try to work out when you can. I will let you know how this works for me.

Honestly, I think the best tip is to eat less and exercise more. You have to burn more calories than you take in each day. I also learned to stop using eating as a social time. It's amazing how much one person can eat while talking to friends over a nice Mexican meal! It also helps to find a form of exercise you enjoy, because if it's a chore, you'll do everything in your power to avoid it. For me, it's karate--I'm really (pleasantly) surprised at how a few hours a week over the course of almost a year has changed my body and my mindset. Find something you like and just go for it!
