I had a very memorable dream once, in my early twenties, and I know why I had it -- what caused me to have that dream.

A good friend of mine told that he had this same dream, although I've not yet mentioned to him that I've also had it. I'm guessing he dreamt it for the same reason as I did.

The dream:

I'm moving up a hill of pastel-coloured flowers. My eye-level is only just above them, like I'm lying on a sled. It's a nice feeling.

Has anyone had this dream? Do you know why you had it?

no, cant say i have
but
i have had dreams about driving over cardboard bridges...and i would get half way, they would fall and id be on another cardboard bridge....i never fell to the bottom
i think that it taught me alot about recycling.

I would love to know what you make of it, and why you think you dreamed it. It sounds very pleasant.

Sometimes my dreams make no sense. Other times they speak in a symbolism so painfully obvious that I am half ashamed of them. When I recently had to make a difficult decision about my employment and career path, I dreamed that I was driving in a dense fog, so that I could not see the road and could only go be feel, and often saw headlights rushing at me as I got in the wrong lane. Eventually I came out of the fog and found myself on a bridge, fog clearing, sun coming out, people coming to help me as I stopped my car and got out. On either side of the bridge I could now see a very steep slope down to the river - a narrow miss.

How pathetically obvious. If I saw that in a story I would roll my eyes and backclick.

The Fool and I shared a dream. I don't think either of us knows why we had it. But it was strangely moving to hear from someone else who had it. It's still with both of us.

River = sex in pop psychology (bastardized Jung).

Possibly, but with a bridge, also a good representation of change and possible danger.

Some months after my grandfather died, I dreamed that he was standing in a golden light on the other side of a bridge, telling me that it was beautiful over there. Yes, my dreams really are that tragically obvious.

Actually Joe, with slight variations I understand that this is a very common dream. The controlled/peaceful flying dream. (unlike the one where you are The Hulk and are falling at speed to the earth although knowing you won't be hurt you do know that when you land you will jump again: the uncontrolled flying dream)

You get the sense of swift movement, being close to the ground whilst being assured that you aren't actually going too fast to be hurt. Going up hill would represent a pleasant challenge that you have hopes of fullfilling and in place of flying the sled makes a safe (if possibly eventually uncontrolled) method of moving. Moving through whatever it is that you are appreciative of at the time (life, love, health, work etc)

There you go. Completely unfounded and straight off the top of my head.

Large pinch of salt required: I've analysed a number of people's dreams (always just to reassure them and totally without qualification) and in all cases they have answered with 'yes that fits'. I look at this 'talent/skill' as akin to fortune telling, complete rubbish.

One dream theory I have however, I believe wholeheartedly. Nightmares serve no purpose other than to wake us up.

Bad dreams don't wake us up. Unhappy dreams don't wake us up. Only physically uncomfortable dreams wake us up. Those nightmares that make us react physically. Kicking legs, waving arms, screaming. Even the best sex dream you've ever had. If it woke you up, it did it's job.

I have never dreamt of flowers in my life, save bad wallpaper. What a nightmare!

Bifrost - the rainbow bridge

Only dream I ever had that I never understood was one I had in high school. I was on a diving board, bounced twice and jumped. But I remember I was terrified of falling, so I didn't. I just kept going up. The higher I went the more afraid I was that I would die if I fell, so I just kept going up. Was wierd.

You dropped your gum, Debbie.

I had a dream that I got up, got dressed and took the bus to college, only to wake up and find out I had to do the whole fucking thing again.

I notice you don't have any periods when you post. I like that.

Uuuuggghhhh!!!!! I hate having my period Dont remind me.

Debbie

Boring old flying, quite often in buildings I know. For some peculiar reason, the Galleria at Hatfield (Joe probably knows it) features a lot. It, at least, has the height.

I know, you can't wear the tight Levis. But Black or red overalls are safe.

Nope. But I have a re-occuring dream that I am a smurf... trapped in Mario Land... and monkeys keep throwing mushroom houses at me...

What do you think that means?

Means you shouldn't watch cartoon network while playing Nintendo. ;)

Usually, dreams where you're travelling up anything are good. It could be a mountain, stairs, or even the hill you described - it means that you're moving up in the world.

The flowers are a symbol of happiness and contentment, and the fact that they were a feminine, pastel colour probably indicates that the dream has something to do with your love life.

Instead of walking or struggling to get up the hill, you were gliding over it on the sled, suggesting that you feel completely in control of a certain romantic situation. You don't have to work at anything. Even with your feet up, lying on your back, things aren't just going smoothly - they're going really well.

Just a guess.

I had a similar dream once where I was on a steep cliff with pastel flowers. It was so steep that I kept slipping further and further down it, and each time I touched a piece of ground with my foot, it would break off and just fall off. I broke up with a girlfriend for good a few days later.
