If you are interested in someone you are more likely to look for clues the other side feels the same and you will more likely see things that are not really there. A regular smile will make you melt when you have a crush on that person. If you feel no more than friendship or even less, that smile will just be that: a regular smile.

I'm not saying those hints can't be there but if they are as vague as you state here, there is probably not a whole lot more than friendship of kindness. I smile to and at a lot of people. That does not mean I have deeper feelings for them all of the time...

I've had that feeling, and I think a lot of times it's body language that tips me off. If you Google body language and romance or something like that, you'll find quite a few articles that go into great detail about little things that you may or may not notice overtly, but that are typically signs.

They say if someone meets you and is intrigued, their pupils will dilate a little, and their eyebrows will go up for a split second. You might not notice specifically, but your brain will process the signal. Also, things like:

- if they sit facing toward you with their body rather than away from you
- if they stand with their feet in a V, they're open to you
- if they mirror your actions with your hands or arms or body position
- if they touch their face, they're drawing your attention to them

Fascinating stuff! And much of it works on an unconscious level. Could be that's what you're picking up on.
