Have the underage guidelines been tightened?

hi there,
my story just got rejected because of underage sexual activity.
what i don't understand is why it matters, after all its just a story correct? i realize some people post stories here and make it sound like it is their own personal experience. but mainly its fiction and fantasy. why should it matter whether you post a story with that kind of taboo inside it when this whole site is comfortable with taboo any way? people do fantasize about underage sex and illegal or not its always going to be there. the only thing that makes it taboo is the law that is made by people who think its wrong. Now im not here saying that i think young YOUNG people having sex should be made legal or exploited. i just think that when it comes to stories and fiction, it shouldn't matter. Its just a story.

...and like it or not. these things actually happen in the world, trying to hide it is not going to make it go away. you don't ban graphic rape and murder scenes of children in tv and books because its real, it happens, however sad it is.

To save yourself grief and wheels spinning, all you need to keep in mind is that this is material the website has declared it will not offer on its website. You don't have to reason it out any further than that (and we certainly don't need to have this conversation for the 1,000th time outside of the view of anyone with any power to do anything about it).

This is a business. They have a right to establish their product line and not to offer anything outside of that product line.

But if you really want to change that, you need to PM directly to Laurel.

It's not "unfair" at all - its the CHOICE of the owners of this site (which I personally happen to concur with). That's why underage sex is SPECIFICALLY AND CLEARLY prohibited here. Their site, their rules.

Wanna post that stuff? Go to the other sites that allow it. Want the readership of Lit? Abide by the rules, hon. (at least that my suggestion. Your opinion may differ but lets see how far that gets ya, K?)

It is Manu and Laurel's website. Like everything in the world, it operates by the Golden Rule - he/she who has the gold, makes the rules. If you don't like their rules for the stories they'll publish on their web site, Literotica.com, you are free to seek out another erotic story website whose rules are more amenable to what you desire to write. There are a lot of them out there. Or, you can devote the time, effort, and money needed into starting an erotic story site of your own, where you make the rules.

Also, this is (as far as I can tell) the BEST erotic website. It has the best format, the best system, the most views, the most comprehensive voting/feedback system...

So keeping your characters old enough to join the army seems like a reasonable price to pay.

It's not just about the golden rule it's that the rule is enforced or ignored depending on whim, or who is involved. Stories are complained about repeatedly and left up, others are pulled immediately.

Mine were pulled recently as payback fro embarrassing them in a thread I started asking why a story featuring a 15 year old was still up six months after every public comment called out the fact the girl was 15 and several authors complained about it

It was pulled a day after I started the thread. The reason it was pulled is seeing the story was EH I called the thread "so non human stories don;t follow the same rules"

Yeah, threaten their favorites and point out their hypocrisy will get you pulled when the chance arises.

That and having the stones to write a real story and pull it off right under their noses.

I tend to agree with you on most things, but I don't think I'll ever stand on your side for this whole Real/underage story thing.

Nothing personal as to LC68, but there will always be people gaming the system and throwing into the seams in the zone. If anyone wants to post underage, extreme noncon, and all that jazz, try asstr.org or similar sites. They'll publish anything. I hasten to add I've never posted there.

I wouldn't want my stories to be mixed in with stories that promote molesting children. Apparently I'm not alone in this. Sites with lower standards tend to have lower-quality writing. The owners of Literotica are wise to draw a line somewhere. They've decided this site will allow all kinds of healthy and unhealthy fantasies about adults, but at least we leave children alone. Drop that standard and I suspect I wouldn't be the only author leaving.

I wish they would lower the age to sixteen

If you are old enough to drive you should be old enough to have control of your ass. However you can post over at Storiesonline.net, a lot of the lit authors do when they can't get their stories posted here.

Lit is the best but they have this one flaw and they will not change it for love or money. So you have to take the good with the bad.

Please, god no.

Whatever the limit is, there will always be people who want it lower. If we lower it to 16, people will want 14. If we lower it to fourteen, people will want twelve.

Eventually, people will throw up their hands and ask, why can't we just fuck babies?

People like you are normal. But it's good to keep the limit at 18, when people are still immature, but are at least physically close to adulthood.

Many authors here at Lit also post on SOL (and other sites). I've been told that SOL has tightened their underage rules a bit, although since I don't write that stuff, it hasn't been any kind of problem for me. Anyway, I've had nothing but good experiences there. I was leery about posting my stuff there, but nearly all of the feedback I've gotten has been polite -- even if they don't like my story. They don't seem nearly to have the troll problem, but then they don't have public comments, so perhaps that's why.

why I think it should be sixteen

When you give someone a car and allow them to drive in traffic, then you are saying they are old enough to make life and death decisions.

If we are willing to trust them to follow the rules and behave like an adult in a car at high speeds and in thick traffic, than I think they should be able to command their own body and be responsible for their actions.

I tend to agree with you on most things, but I don't think I'll ever stand on your side for this whole Real/underage story thing.

Real story as in the two female characters in question are both a bit screwed up as adults. One cannot comfortable have sex with men, without having flashbacks to what happened to her as a child. One who has never slept with a man in her adult life and is the most cold hearted ruthless bitch you will meet.

I decided during the course of the story to show why. So I put in tow brief flashbacks of said events and did not take the pansy way out of sparing the reader anything. I went for the throat and portrayed the acts as brutal and disturbing as they were. I was not writing kiddie porn stroke by any means

Funny thing is both stories had great ratings and I received no negative feedback on either, in fact I got many compliments on them.

At the end of the series which took 18 months to write I mentioned that although it was not main stream popular it was my baby and told my way and I was proud of the fact that I did not put my tail between my legs and water anything down.

Tell you what, I'll dare you to read one of them and tell me if you feel it was out of context for the rest of the story, send me your e-mail in a PM.

I wasn't very clear.

The whole, 'underage sex makes my story more real then your stories' angle. I understand 'realistic' as most people lose it before 18 (I was a minority there :)) But not how this site would be 'better' for having pedophile-bait

Agreed there. I will say again I have no desire to write (or read about) 12 year olds having sex.

Would I be okay with 16? Yes.

My main problem is how inconsistent and lame they are here with enforcing their rules.

Now that Laurel has dispelled the myth there was a ever a bot that means when stories have been rejected for underage when the line in question was drinking a bottle of 12 year old scotch that means she read and rejected that.

When someone has a 16 year old that engages in no sex yet it is still rejected that means she did that. And when blatant pedo shit goes through it means she let it.

all on a whim, or mood , or whatever. Then once it's up, good luck in someone getting it removed unless they have a reason to want to.

.

Keep in mind, it is just her, checking hundreds of stories each night. I could see her getting really tired, headache, eyestrain, too much coffee, and making a mistake.

We're all human.

That might be how she missed those scenes the first time through.

Yeah, god forbid that Laurel is actually human and accidentally let an underage scene slip through in one of the HUNDREDS of stories she reviews.

Besides, you'd think she'd read every word of stories written by such an esteemed writer as LC (in his own mind anyways).

BTW, dude... Are you saying that people should bear no responsibility for their own shit and that going against what you KNOW to be the wishes and guidance of the owners of this site is just okie dookie? SERIOUSLY????

I'm sure she's read every word that you've written.

Oh, wait a minute you don;t write anything except your insipid posts.

I'm saying run it the same way across the board

and as for poor Laurel trying to read 100 stories a night?

This site gets millions of hits a day. Fucking hire someone to read a few stories.

Maybe she could hire you, it's obvious you have nothing better to do.

This would be fine if this was a thriller or horror, but the moment the erotica label is slapped on a story, you have to play by a different set of rules. They might not be fair, but that's how it is.

Recently I read "The Pig" by Edward Lee. It was hilarious and disgusting. I would love to write something similar, but if I did I know I wouldn't be able to put it out through eXcessica because eXcessica is a publisher of erotica. I push the line pretty hard with some of my stories, but I'm always Erotic Horror. Someone like Lee writes Erotic Horror.

The labelling is important. The moment you write a brutal and disturbing scene featuring the rape of a minor, you are no longer writing erotica, you're writing a horror, thriller or even a piece of literary fiction. That's fine for those genres, but Literotica is an erotica site and your story no longer fits within the constraints allowed for erotica.

You need to get your genre goggles recalibrated. You're trying to bash circular pegs into square holes at the moment.

Thanks, I wasn't sure how to word his problem.

*ahem*

Understand the point. My issues was the main body of the story still focuses on Incest, which is always trump category. Although because the chapter in question had very little sex I could have taken a shot at non erotic.

The square peg I was pounding through was having a real work of fiction. The story was not stroke incest, but contained several plot lines, scenes of violence, occult aspects, betrayals, drug abuse, child abuse, and romance.

I will also default to lit's "rape rule" look in the non con section and see how well it is enforced.

Bottom line is both stories I posted contained notes explaining the situation. I was telling them to look for it. They posted then they get embarrassed months later when one of my "fans" here decide to report it, then it's oh bad boy! shame on you!

I'm sure they didn't mind the hits the stories got.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

You're right I hardly did shit today, but I still made WAY more money than you did today, so Kitty Mama couldn't afford me.

Now what does that have anything to do with your inability to follow the rules and your whiny ass unwillingness to accept that you were wrong?

Help Please

There is a 'pending' period of three or four days, as it is one woman going through all of the stories to check for bestiality, underage sex, or rape.

Sometimes it's shorter, right now during a contest, it will probably be longer. No more then 7 days, but keep checking. It will say 'pending' next to your story if it is pending, 'rejected' if it has been shunned for having forbidden materiel or atrocious spelling (and it will say whatever you did wrong) and it will say 'approved' once it has been approved.

Welcome to AH, may your days be merry and troll-free.
