I'm not saying that I LOVE the death penalty. And you're right. It does have it's flaws, and (unforunately) many innocent men are put to death, while the real offenders are walking around society.

The system is imperfect, we can agree there, but please provide us with more information regarding these 'many innocent men' that you claim have been put to death in this country. There have been numerous cases where men have been sentenced to die and have then later been proven innocent, but I've never heard of an innocent man actually recieving the death penalty, but I look forward to your research proving me wrong.

But in this case, McVeigh admitted to it. I can't, and I won't, pay for him to live, while so many innocents died. Not this time.

So do you support his punishment based on the terrible nature of the act he committed, or do you just believe in discarding the guilty in order to save from having to somehow 'pay' for their continued incarceration?

Lavender

You make some good points, but executing him doesn't cost more in the long run. It might, if some person kills him while in jail. But if you consider how long he could live in there, it doesn't really average out. He gets his three meals a day, a bed to sleep in at night, exercise... and there's always that possibility of parole. I'm not saying that he'd get it, I'm just saying that people who have committed murders, and things of that nature have been put on parole before. I for one don't want to see him in my neck of the woods.

But don't take that the wrong way. I'm not saying that we should just kill him so we wouldn't have to worry about him, at all.

As for it being better to let him rot in jail... I don't think so. He doesn't care either way. He has stated that he wants to die, but I'm sure living, and staying in the prison, isn't a bad second place. The point is, he committed the crime, and he owned up to it. If you admit to killing people, I'm sure you know what the consequences are. Death, or slowly dying as you sit in a jail cell. Either way, he knew what was coming. It doesn't matter to him.

^.*.^

Cool, I never heard it before. I guess Oliver Clozoff could spew some medical term and I wouldn't have clue about that either though. I just thought you garbled the word retribution. I should have known better.

:)

Go on if you want but it still doesn't change the fact that he admitted it, and that he killed babies! Hand him over to the families, let him die a slow death!

I'd rather my tax money was used to put him to sleep forever then to have to pay while he sits on his ass alive in jail. He purposly killed, the bastard should fry for what he did.

But if we put him to death doesn't that mean we "purposely killed"? And how would what we did be better? Because we feel we have moral justification? So did most of the people who killed massive amounts of people.

The question is would you have your government kill McVeigh and Abu-Jamal or neither?

I say put him in the general population of prisoners 1 week before his execution date. Most of those in the general population dont take too kindly to those that do anything criminal to children. Remember what happened to Jeffrey Dahmer.... he was beat to death with a mop(broom) handle. I think that or getting gutted by another prisoner's shank(knife)is a fitting and less expensive(put that in for the ones who mentioned expenses of executing or letting him live out the rest of his life in prison)punishment for someone like him. The only bad thing about executing him is we give him what he wants: He wants to be a martyr for his 'cause'. So I again will say, Let the general population have their cumulative ways with his sorry ass.

If he was my uncle, and he killed those babies...I'd volunteer to pull the lever myself.

Ooh, Ooh! I just thought I'd get this in. I don't see why LWOP isn't a viable option to put this fear of yours to rest.

Well Mistress, this obviously is an issue that affects you deeply and makes you respond very primally, which I completely understand. I'll step back from the "Babykilling. Pro or Con?" argument with only these words. Sometimes we look back at society and say "What were we thinking?" I'd hate for the society I help build to be thought of as one that had gross errors in judgement. I hope that the murder of Tim McVeigh brings some resolution to the families of his victims and to you too. :)

Geez Mis, let go of the spin a little bit - I agree that he needs to die (and he's getting the lethal injection - you keep refering to 'frying' (electric chair) and 'pulling the lever (gas chamber)); However, he deserves whats coming to him for 168 EQUALLY valid reasons.

LOL! Let go of the spin....
I repeat myself He fucking killed babies!
There much better...though I might have to hop back in here in a few minutes and say it again. AND as long as the bastard goes down, I don't care how it's done. :)

Just when I think I'm out, They pull me back in!!! :D

BTW The US miltary killed far more babies than Mr. McVeigh did when they dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Also during the bombing of Cambodia. Think Kissinger should be put to death?

To make my view more clear, was a tad off from expressing it in my previous post. Ok im not all into the death penalty for those that killed 1 person (barring extreme circumstances) but what we are talking about here is a MASS murderer and that in my eyes makes me want to see(not literally) him die for his actions.
