Gotta say it once again so to interrupt the flirtathon for a brief on topic moment..... I am opposed to the death penalty. It is not effective as a deterent. My brother was killed by a man who drove drunk and who had killed three others including a eight month old baby. Although I was angry and deeply grieved at the loss of his life I did not want this man to lose his own. I really hope we have as a society evolved to the point where killing someone is not a remedy. Let him live in solitary confinment the rest of his days without TV or other entertainments. That would be a fitting and just punishment to me.

What purpose is there in killing him?

1. It costs more.

2. It doesn't prevent people from committing crime.

3. It gives him an easy way out. McVeigh wants to be put to death. Wouldn't it be better to make him sit in jail for the rest of his life contemplating the atrocity he committed.

4. Additionally, if you read his attorney's book or hear the man speak, you will realize that McVeigh may have some pertinent information that the government needs. I'm not a conspiracy theorist at all, but his story is a bit suspect.

I learned in Criminology that it DOES cost more to sentence someone to death than it does to allow them to live out a life term in prison.

There has never been any substantial proof that the death penalty is in any way a deterrant to crime.

You honestly believe that Tim McVeigh on his own, with no involvment of any other person or entity committed this act alone? huh!

And, Mistress... being in jail is no picnic, darling. Your basic freedom is taken away, all privacy and you live in fear of your life everyday. Seems a much more fitting punishment to me than to let him avoid it all in death.
