I'm pretty ignorant on the subject, but aren't there laws on the books in Canada, Great Britain, Germany, and perhaps a few other places against hate speech, and isn't there a movement to make it illegal in the US?

I'm pretty ignorant on the subject, but aren't there laws on the books in Canada, Great Britain, Germany, and perhaps a few other places against hate speech, and isn't there a movement to make it illegal in the US?

I'm sure there is..there's always people who want to censor everything, and they all have the same line of reasoning. No hate speech because it's "harmful" to society (because we all know that removing the word "nigger" from the dictionary would result in instant racial harmony). No pornography because it's "harmful" to women (because we all know that everything foul is rooted in porn. "80% of sex offenders have seen a pornographic image at some time in their lives" Well, how about the stats on NON-sex offenders, babe? Lordie... I actually read that stat in an anti-porn article. Guaranteed, the woman who wrote the article has at least one relative or friend who surfs porn sites. People are too much).

I wish people would quit worrying about things they think MAY cause a crime and focus on the crimes themselves. The word "kike" is not the source of all anti-Jew sentiment. You can't force tolerance on people by banning certain words.

We do, in fact, have some sort of Hate Speech laws.

Germany has really really strong anti- Nazi laws.
