Has anyone here ever met in "real life?"

I believe that some people here at the AH have met in person, and I am curious about your experiences if you care to share - either about meeting someone from Lit or from the internet in general. What was it like? What made you decide to meet? Was it a platonic meeting or more? Did you continue the realtionship/friendship?

Just curious in case anyone feels like sharing a story.
Thanks,
JJ

I have. :)

What was it like?

Scary: Not in a bad way, but there's a healthy level of anxiety present. Thrilling: You share so much of yourself on the computer/telephone that finally putting a face, an embrace, a smile to all of the words and feelings is quite special. Rewarding: No matter how much you share and mesh on the computer/telephone, there's always a wonder if things will be different in person. I'm lucky, in that nothing changed so much as it was finally backed up and the wondering 'is it possible?' vanished.

What made you decide to meet?

I think I felt like it was time to put the connection to the test. I live to surprise people so I didn't even tell her I was coming. I knew she'd be a nervous wreck, so I just packed up and went. I think it was much better that way. She was put out for a minute because she didn't get a chance to clean like a maniac or primp for hours, but I thought it was fantastic to see her in her natural setting. I mean, if the point of meeting is to find out what someone is really like, then why go to all kinds of trouble to alter the normal state? (She got over it quickly, btw.)

Was it a platonic meeting or more?

More.

Did you continue the realtionship/friendship?

Yep. Still going strong. I've been back once since then and am leaving to visit again in four days. I highly recommend taking the leap if you're sure you can be safe.

If these avs are you, jj, there'll be plenty of offers! Take your time and "talk."

But it's as good a way to meet someone as any, better in some ways. If you have no judgement, of corse, you can get burnt. But if you have no judgement, what would you? Ineveitable, in a case like that. Squirrel-brained people get burnt all the time, internet or no internet.

Be confident, be canny, be bold, be careful!

Or, if it's mere curiosity, I have met two people in that sort of way. We were in a play-by-mail game together. They were physically a complete surprise, but they were in both cases exactly the sort of person I had come to expect. It was good, stimulating, to meet and talk with no time delay.

But I didn't do anything or consider anything romantic or sexual. Still, I see the process as surer than many ways of meeting folks.

I have.

Fucking awesome.

We liked each other, and knew we had a strong connection.

More.

Yes.

Lou

P.S. No prizes for guessing who. :p

Not from this forum. But from another.

There's a satirical magazine here in Canada that had a forum similar to this. I've been there almost three years now.

At least once a month we have 'Fests'. Someone announces we're having one, picks a venue, we argue about the venue, piss, bitch and moan, then get together and have a good time.

Very nice people.

The original forum is long since defunct but we've kept it alive on our own. I've made some good friends.

I was hoping for more with one of the women, drop dead gorgeous and smart as a whip. Kept giving me 'signals' so strong even a social dyslexic like me could pick them up.

Only had one date. We kept up an e-mail correspondence for a while. She kept blowing hot and cold. Even this has faded to nothing.

From what I've read on her blog, she decided to go after what she really wanted. Somebody in the Brad Pitt category for looks and wealth.

Sigh. Can't compete with that.

Well I met my now husband online -but not here :)

We clicked immediately and well it just seemed natural to meet in real life, especially as it was only a few hours travel between us.

It was definitely more than platonic and I think we both knew that. In fact the first day we met was the first time I had a man touch me in an overtly sexual way and I loved it ;)

The relationship went on and on and on and is still going :)

I've met a few people from online.

It was fun. I wasn't sure what to expect, but after that initial first smile, we fell straight into how we are together online.

I even had one spend Christmas day with us last year. There are some really nice people to be met online. :)

As for there being 'more' the mouse never squeaks

Sadly, y'all are so far away. :(

But I would if I could.

I have spoken to some of you on the phone, which was totally awesome! All platonic --

I have camed a few of you - again, all platonic...although, one of you did see me in my bathing suit!

There is someone I would love to meet in person...but, it will never happen...and that's ok.

I don't actually live near . . . anyone, and I'm relatively new around here. But there are a number of people I would absolutely love to meet someday, and maybe once I get my life stabilized out on the East Coast . . .

You can stay in my backyard, It has grass....sometimes.

It would be very weird to meet people from this board. But I think, um, productive....

I get around New England a lot, visiting friends back and forth at Lowell, MA.

I'd be willing to clap eyes on the Northeast members here. I plan a Toronto trip in a year and a half or so, as well.

The meeting in West Yorkshire is going to be interesting in a few weeks. I think there's 10 of us meeting up

I'm hoping to meet up with a whole raft of you people when I come over next May/June.

Orgy anyone???? ;)

An orgy of words, thoughts, jokes, laughter and 'hullos'. What else did you think I meant ???
