Has anyone here ever been a subject in a research study?

I was just wondering... I'm pretty broke... the money is good... no harm can be done right?

Or am I simply in denial of my paranoia/eminent thoughts that something could go wrong.

Any responses appreciated.

Thanks

For several years, i've been a participant in an ongoing study conducted by the U of CA in San Diego regarding the heritability of cholesterol. My father and one of my sisters have extremely high amounts of cholesterol as evidenced, in part, by a white ring around the iris of their eyes. I do not have the white ring but do have semi-high cholesterol. A third sister doesn't have either. We're all part of the study, which is trying to determine the gene loci for this specific kind of inherited cholesterol.

It doesn't pay anything, btw, and one has to have the genetic makeup to be a part of the study to begin with.

Sorry.

You could always do phone sex. I heard they pay well.

Hugs babe, good to see ya.

Um I dont know... I'd think about doing it.. depends on the money they offer

Jade! Nice to see you back, love.

You want to be a lab rat?

:) Read Stephen Kings' Firestarter.

I did it a little in college. I was good friends with the Dean of they Psy. Dept.. It is a good way to pick up a few bucks. You have a good chance at being in the control group anyhow, where nothing happens to you.

I would never participate in a study being done by non-academics.

Jade,

Several of my room mates have done studies. Some of the studies were for new medications that needed a specific test subject type, some were as simple as a new shampoo that was being tried out. Pharmaco is one company I know of the roomies did studies for that paid well and provided lots of entertainment while they stayed there for the studies they had to be monitored 24 hours a day for.

I was going to do one, but I was too fat. Imagine that ?!? A weight loss study and because I was fat I did not qualify for it ?

Most of the studies advertise in the papers what they are looking for. Specific age groups, race, medical problem ..... and some can pay from $50 to $1500 dependin on the time involved.

Good luck

Participated in one in college in psychology department just teaching and observing somehow the affects of progressive relaxation techniques. Paid enough for a night out and involved no risks, as long as the tech didn't molest me when I was "out". (Hmmm, theres a potential story in there somewhere methinks.)
