Has anyone else drawn the ire of story critic Stacnash? 🤣

Nah, I don't bug him about his horror shirts. I get it all the holes just make it look better. It's the plain ones that're so full of holes that I can't even wear them around the house that I bug him about. his response is always, "But they're comfy, and clothes are expensive."

Just frees up more of the clothing budget for me.

More than a few people here have an obviously one-sided approach to Stacnash. Some present her only as an insightful and eloquent critic, while perhaps acknowledging her bias and the misguided approach to judge the writer rather than the story.
Some others present her only as a nasty and spiteful troll.
It is quite obvious to anyone who wants to see things objectively that she is both.

I believe that 100% - troll but insightful with literary knowledge. If she ever reviews one of mine, I will be perfectly capable of ignoring the troll part and excising the feedback, and I'm sure what I find will be quite valuable.

The issue with stacnash is the insistence on qualifying different writers based on their own standards, then proclaiming it publicly. It is certainly their "right" to do this, of course, but I think it's impolite, unhelpful, and petty.

But if you make one of her lists, even her shitlist, you will get more hits.

She reviewed one of my older and lower rated stories. I found that an interesting choice for her to review. At the time, I'd won my blue W, so...
I was on one of her lists for a while, as well.

Just checked and I can't seem to find the comment, and I've been removed from her list. Not sure what that means, but I remember her comment as being somewhat, um, unnecessarily intense...

Don't know the basis for his lists. I remember getting a long and detailed comment from him, but I didn't remember it being on the story he listed for me, which is my darkest story.

PS. I checked. His comment was on that dark story.
Thanks for this post. I didn't realize he(edit: she?) had lists, and found myself in the 4 star list. That was nice.

I was startled to get a "long and detailed comment" from him right about the time there was a thread lamenting his reviews. I regard any detailed review as a good thing. I just went back to see where it fell on the good/bad continuum, and it was definitely mixed, but these two "comments made my day" (I'm sure I posted it there at the time.)
Obviously, there were problems with this, but it made me smile and won me over by the end.
. . .
With regards to the sexual content, it was quite good because you leant into Henderson’s fantasy of topping from the bottom. That’s normally a recipe for disaster, but you found a way to make it work by having tunnel vision on your own fantasy. Because Henderson liked it so much, I found myself rooting for him. You benefitted from not taking things too seriously and this ended up far better for it. Parts of it were quite hot, which was a pleasant surprise.

Oh, I'm on one of her lists. I'm not sure it's made any difference in my views, and at this point I don't know how I'd research that.

Just checked the comments of my stories and I can't find them. I guess this means I have to try harder?

the story he listed for me, which is my darkest story.
Could you tell us which story that was? I like dark, but you have published 46, and it's just too much for me to go looking for Stachnash's comment.

Oh come on, do you thin that you're going to get less hits because someone listed you? Every extra link ups your profile. Especially on her profile, as she is a higher profile member. People will hit you just for the train wreck factor alone.

Fascinating thread! The main conclusion I get from this is that we're addicted to "detailed" reviews. Bless their heart for paying attention to our stuff!!
but their lists seem to be made pretty much entirely of authors who are currently or recently active in AH.
Interesting!! True??
when their very clearly an alt was arguing in another thread.

Well, glad I'm not the only one who came to that conclusion.
How do the two of you know that they have an alt? Care to share your theory?

and got herself banned.
Banned for what, exactly? I'd like to know what people do to get banned. And how do they get unbanned?

There are lots of theories about Stacnash. One that no one ever seems to want to entertain is that they give their honest opinions, which can be inconsistent and sometimes unfair.
But detailed.
The main coin you’re paid with here is attention, and she offers it generously through sharp, well-reasoned reviews.
That's the reason for this 6 page thread in one day.
Most of you, though few would admit it, quietly hope she’ll comment on every one of your stories.
Yup.

Most of the people looking at that list are from the AH, and my stuff is pretty mediocre... Which to the masses won't always matter, some will be entertained, and finish and rate it. But the authors here are pretty talented, and so while I might see an uptick in views, I doubt many if any will finish it or go on to look at other stories in my library, so in the grand scheme of things, no her adding me to a list and reviewing my story doesn't change anything.

They were defending a view on a story that they themselves supposedly hadn't read in an extremely argumentative defensive way.

Yup.
They showed up here once and was so toxic and argumentative the mod immediately nuked their ability to post here. Probably temporary, but they haven't tried coming back-at least to post, I suspect they come by and ghost at times. It was one of the fastest banning's I've seen.

As for the alts, there have been several people mentioning that a comment they make often has another one that shows up around the same time and sounds similar in tone whuile agreeing with everything the original ID says. In my case, I received a nasty comment from them, another from a different name that said many of the same things and an anon remark agreeing with the others. The three comments appeared around the same time and on a story that had seen no comments in weeks.

Its another reason I don't care if they do leave positive remarks for some people I would never take them seriously, not when playing stupid games like that.

It is worth mentioning that many people thought they were an alt of another troll here, but I'm not sure that's true, but then again, can't say for sure its not either

No, I don't think I'll get less. But I doubt I'll get more, either.

It's certainly possible. But I have no way of knowing. I do know that an arbitrary reader, drifting in here looking to get off, doesn't necessarily know to look at stacnash's page to find me on one of their lists. Stacnash is not, as far as I know, a writer here; why would anyone check their page, for anything?

The only time I see a notable uptick in people following me or looking at my stuff is when I publish something new.

I got a fairly negative review from her (I think in the 2 star range) but it was definitely fair and had some very helpful feedback.

Obviously, they don't know. But that's what happens when a ghost slices into your ego and you can't strike back—no tourniquet, not even a scrap of gauze. So you throw mud in every direction, hoping something sticks, then dash off to mamma, wailing.
Are you for real right now? I don’t think all these contest winning and leaderboard authors are that worried about it.

You're speaking to the AH Forums leading projectionist. What he accuses people of here is how they feel and behave. A deli slicer couldn't get anything close to as thin as their skin, so they accuse everyone else of being that way.

Plath is also a troll, so it's important to him to think trolls have real power, that people are actually hurt by their nonsense. It gives them a sense of worth.
It's as silly and juvenile as trolling, but there you have it.

You're clearly new and don’t yet know the full social dynamics at work. But without going into detail, trust me when I say I know, I know.

All those who shout troll in your face shrink like abandoned puppies in private, longing for warmth and reassurance.

There’s the public facade of bragging about achievements, and then the timid openness behind closed doors. I’ve never cared much for social media, and it never ceases to amaze me how eager people are to bare themselves to strangers.

Every “contest-winning or leaderboard author” I’ve encountered is driven by emptiness, loneliness, depression, and self-loathing. It only takes someone like Stacnash to prick the balloon of pretense and send them spiraling.

Just count the number of replies some have left in this thread and you’ll see who’s clearly still bothered by "a self-proclaimed critic and troll" banned from the forums years ago and who isn’t.

You project like an IMAX.
