Has anyone else drawn the ire of story critic Stacnash? 🤣

Some people don't seem to realize people can just disagree on things. It has to be about "winning".
Probably tied up in their ego.
I blame all those debate classes. Any disagreement becomes about scoring points. Sooner or later people will start accusing each other of faulty argument techniques, and then you know they care more about winning than about exchanging ideas so that everyone learns and becomes wiser.

A lot of arguments (especially on the internet) inevitably reach a point where right or wrong you just have to stop engaging and walk away, cause the other person won't stop arguing, even if you've conceded the point.

Probably something to that. The rise of "gotcha" videos passed off as politics doesn't help either.
10 second clips of someone "owning" "destroying" or whatever someone who holds a differing opinion with some pithy retort.

Nah. I was a pretty high-level competitive debater in a past life, and that wasn't the ethos. You don't score points by merely countering; you score by countering wisely. And by persuading, which is what stacnash and her ilk never really seem to have figured out.

Has that ethos changed since your day?

"My day?" LOL.

No clue; I was bangin' back in the 1990s. But I do agree with you that the internet has never really helped: we reward soundbytes that "score" likes and such now. That's not discourse.

So, you were awesome, last century? :p
