She is who she is, true to herself, not to anyone else. Something I can definitely relate to. Everyone indulges in nastiness occasionally. She's no exception. She didn’t do anything out of the ordinary, certainly not compared to what others do here all the time. Her only crime was being falsely accused of being my alt. If you've at least read my comments here you'll see i generally dont have an issue with Stacnash nor with what they do. My only issue was the apparent generalization of an authors entire body of work based on reading one story.

I strongly agree with this criticism, but I think that there are two other main reasons why she embodies bad behaviour:

- she generalises from her response to the story to personal attacks on the author
- she does so in an exaggerated, arbitrary manner, while dressing it up as objective criticism with an over-precise numerical score

This is one of the more interesting Stacnash threads, but ultimately I think we’re talking about somebody who’s pretty toxic. (And here I am, sucked in again, helping give it oxygen and mixing metaphors in the process.)

Coming back to the original post, I think the answer boils down to “Yes, it’s happened to others. Try and just laugh and walk away, but feel free to ask for help or a hug if you need to.”

You are making a rookie mistake. You do not ask trolls for evidence of their trollish statements. It is a fundamental tenet of trolldom that evidence is not needed and will never be given. Troll statements must be taken on faith or not at all. The troll's authority does not come from evidence but from some magical, unidentified place--probably under the bridge.

Like many threads in the AH it's taken a life of it's own. I'd say we're having a good time and a productive discussion of our various perspectives on feedback.

Overall I consider that a good thing.

I wouldn't consider a "productive discussion" a thread with plenty of messages that feel packed with a deeply rooted grudge on someone who I can accept loves to deliver their critiques by sticking their essays into a knife and then throwing the knife using your head as the target.
