So what is the difference? Is there a difference between Hardcore Sex and Softcore Sex?

When you have sex do you classify it? If so how?

Cat

I tend to have sex fall between three classifications--and think of them as such, really:

Casual fun immediate sex - which I guess would be very softcore, with some flavor here and there.

Serious loving emotional sex - which I guess would be softcore as well, with more effort and thought.

D/s intense scripted sex - which I would classify as very hardcore, with lots of planning and intentional drama and rapid succession of events.

In another version of joe's scale; Fun, casual sex that doesn't push any special buttons but is handy and pleasurable; softcore

Intimate and longer-lasting sex, that induces passion-- or is the result of passion-- loving and emotional-- hard core-ish.

Sex centered on the kinks that push your buttons-- that turn both partners into greedy animals-- That's hardcore.

That's good. I like it, Stella.

While I agree with Joe, I have also found the unplanned sex to be very hard core when I have found the right women. Of course the exhibitionist in me makes quite a bit of the unplanned sex very hardcore.

I think of the terms in the context of visual porn. Hard core displays sexual acts that are disconnected from any real or depicted human interpersonal interactions. It's the typical "wham bam" accompanied by lots of fake moaning and phony exclamations. It's animalistic.

"Soft core" - I don't know if it's really the correct word, perhaps "non-hard core" is better - displays sex acts that may be just as explicit but happen in the context of real or depicted human interpersonal interactions. These can be passionate or playful, but they give the impression that the participants are relating to one another as fellow human beings rather than as a piece of meat or a living masturbation machine.

i think the terms have specific meanings in porn. 'hard core' means that genitals are shown in detail and that sex acts are taking place.

soft core mean 'soft'[non detailed] depiction or none at all, of the genitals, and the sex acts are presumably faked or not shown in detail. the man is atop the woman, thrusting, perhaps, but you don't see his cock.

I classify my sex as Good and OWBM.

OWBM - Oh, well... better than masturbation.

Yeah, but Cat asked about specific to you, and the sex you actually have, not the industry definitions ;)

These work for me, too.

That's why I haven't previously answered the topic. They don't mean anything to me personally. There is making out, petting, and screwing, but no hardcore/softcore distinction. Only in my porn (it's all hardcore, softcore is the stuff I avoid ;) )

And then there's MAWHFMH. Might As Well Have Fucked My Hand.

Other than that, I subscribe to your distinctions. The terms Hardcore and Softcore kind of carries with them connotation that one is more intense than the other. And I don't find that to be the case.

And more importantly, there's always elements of both involved.
