Since Passover starts tonite at sundown, and Easter is on
Sunday, I thought it would be nice to start a little thread for
anyone who wants to post poems honoring the two holidays
here!

I'll start off:

"Elijah are you here?"
My uncle would ask
"Let me take your coat"
in the imaginary task
I would laugh so hard
that my tummy would hurt
and my Passover dinner
would make me go burp!

Seder plate and matzo
Four cups of wine
Enough to make one zonk
But yet feel oh so fine!

Dad leads the service
In thought and in prayer
so well I must say
That he could run for mayor!

Mom's turkey soup with matzo balls
fish roll with horseradish
Grandma's potato kugel
From what I remember when small
Those sugared fruit slices
Oh so yummy
My dad goes nuts over them
But they are quite gummy!

Tonight is the night
For the family to gather
To look back and reflect
On things that matter
Happiness, sadness
gladness, and cheer
Passover brings everyone
Dear so near!

Happy Passover!

Sad Gods

Let it All Out

There you are,
Dancing in the ivy.
There you are,
Floating with the butterfly.

You are God,
You consume us all.
You are Goddess,
You encircle our lives.

I can see you,
Emcumbered by hypocrisy.
I can see you,
Weeping inside.

Our Gods weep upon Earth as they look down this holiday and see war.

In the real world as in dreams, nothing is quite what it seems.- The Book of Counted Sorrows

Holiday in the Holy Land

Cool poem, christcat. I get it, Tigress-- you're really just a nice little Jewish girl at heart, aren't you?

I'm in a fairly somber mood today. So here's a poem about the holidays, but it's not very cheerful:

HOLIDAY IN THE HOLY LAND

1.

We motored down to Netanya
For the biggest party of the season
Not knowing Hamas had a present for us
Little Leo was clowning around as usual
He's such a scamp, that boy--
Was
Everyone was happy and laughing
The lights all frosted and multi-colored
And we were just sitting down to seder
When the bomb went off

2.

We kill them
They kill us
We kill them some more
They kill us some more
We've killed more of them, but
They're catching up
After awhile,
Do the numbers really matter?
Just a long row of coffins
growing ever longer . . .

girl at heart" :D

Your poem is oh so true......its a shame about what
is going on the Middle East, esp. around Passover,
and soon Easter.....its quite sad :(
