Red Head!

Sure, I'm more of a darker auburn now but I can claim the genetics dammit. God knows I've still got the skin. :p

  • The highest concentration of redheads is in Scotland (13%) followed by Ireland (10%). Worldwide, only 2% of the population has red hair.
  • People with red hair are likely more sensitive to pain. This is because the gene mutation (MC1R) that causes red hair is on the same gene linked to pain receptors. It also means redheads usually need more anesthesia for dental and medical procedures.
  • Having red hair isn't the only thing that makes some redheads unique. They are also more likely to be left handed. Both characteristics come from recessive genes, which like to come in pairs.
  • Redheads probably won't go grey. That's because the pigment just fades over time. So they will probably go blonde and even white, but not grey.
  • Rumor says Hitler banned marriage between redheads. Apparently he thought it would lead to "deviant offspring."
  • Redheads most commonly have brown eyes. The least common eye color: blue.
  • Bees have been proven to be more attracted to redheads.
  • Being a redheaded man may have health benefits. A study published by the British Journal of Cancer suggested that men with red hair are 54% less likely to develop prostate cancer than their brown and blonde-haired counterparts.
  • Redheads actually have less hair than most other people. On average they only have 90,000 strands of hair while blonds, for example, have 140,000. However, red hair is typically thicker so they it still looks just as full.

I'm left handed, and my eyes change colors between different shades blue and green.

I find redheads attractive, but I’m not a bee.

Interesting thing about pain sensitivity. I have chronic pain which I don’t medicate and have chosen to live with. Maybe offspring with a redhead would be less pain sensitive.

Pics or it didn't happen.

It was there for 7 minutes in my profile this morning. You snooze you lose.

Brown eyes here. My sis, a strawberry blonde, is hazel.

Periodontal headaches suck big fat hairy donkey testicles. Without my self proscribed pain killer of choice, I'm living on aspirin and chamomile tea when I get them.

I Love Red Hair on women. It's always so gorgeous.

Lucky Ladies of Lit with red Hair!

My beard was reddish, my hair blond with a hint of red. But both are now white with a bald patch on top.

My mother was left-handed but in her schooldays she wasn't allowed to write with her left hand. She knitted the 'wrong' way round.

My brother was ambidextrous. He was a competent amateur artist. One of his party tricks was to do two different sketches simultaneously one with each hand. I describe myself as ambisinistrous - equally incompetent with both hands. I am the only person in my family who cannot play some form of musical instrument and all of them except me can play the piano.

A significant number of people in my family have red tints and some are flaming redheads. One of my cousins who had bright red hair met a woman at a party who had exactly the same natural colour. They talked, dated and eventually married. We weren't surprised when their children had that colour hair.

Funny. This is what my expectations share, yet my friendship/intimacy experiences with Scots/Irish women have all been brunettes and a few blondes. The only redhead I've had fun with (so far) was an Aussie, someone I met through work. Gotta broaden my net! :D

Also have met many redhead POC, through growing up and from casual acquaintance.

Well it's still 87% non red heads.

Now those are some freckles on those gals!

Only four more hours to love on the red heads. :D

Hooray for Red!!! I didn't like it as a child but now that I am an adult I would never trade for any other tone! :)
