Happy Jew Day, err, Columbus Day, err, Indigenous Day

Columbus Day was not created to honor Columbus' achievements. It was created so Italian-Americans could have their own St. Patrick's Day.

What day is it and why does it matter to you?

Columbus might have had Jewish ancestry but he was not part of the Jewish community in Italy or Spain at the time. He lived and died a Christian.

Jewishness is not about blood quantum. It’s about living a Jewish life and being part of the community.

You are not a jew

Without Jewish bankers, Trump would be living in a double-wide in Tennessee.

What's up, you bored with your usual misogynistic nonsense so have reverted to standard racist/fascist bollocks?

Christopher Columbus did not create America, he never set eyes on the place.

Haiti, on the other hand...

There's a solution to all the controversy. We can skip the special holiday crap and just say "good morning" to each other.

So, in that spirit; good morning to all you asswipes, cunts, trolls, 'n Alts.

Question - why is Columbus so important to the narrative of the origins of this country? What specifically did he do that makes this important to people?

Well, he might not have been the first Old World person who set foot in the New World -- but he was the one who made all the difference. Before Columbus, the Eastern and Western Hemispheres might as well have been on different planets. After -- see the Columbian Exchange.

Was he?

He set foot in the Bahamas.

Are you suggesting no one else was travelling here?

No one from the Eastern Hemisphere was.

Scandinavians might have planted a colony in Newfoundland centuries earlier -- but it soon died out. It had no wider impact. Columbus' voyages did.

And, no, the Chinese did NOT get here before Columbus. Nor did the Egyptians.
