Happy Birthday Polo, my muse

Today is my dog's birthday.

His name is Polo, named after Ralph Lauren's line of clothes because, with his tri-coloring, chocolate brown over white with tan markings, he looks as if he's wearing something special.

He's a Rat terrier. Where most other Rat terrier's are made from a Manchester terrier, a Whippet, and a Fox terrier and have a squat, muscular body with short legs, he's made from a Manchester terrier, a Whippet, and an Italian Greyhound and has a narrow body with long legs. He's recognized by both the AKC and UKC.

I don't expect many to read this, just as I don't anticipate anyone commenting on this, but if you have a dog or a cat or any type of pet, just as you know what your pet means to you, you know what Polo means to me. I just wanted to acknowledge him on his special day.

I can't count how many countless hours he's spent lying beside me, while I read my stories out loud to him. I wonder how much of what I read he understands. Maybe by my intonations and body language, he understands more than I think.

My dog Chip is a rat terrier, too. And he's the best damn dog I've ever had. Without question, he's faster and smarter than I ever was. It's so cool that your doggie was born right in the middle of the dog days of summer.
