This past weekend had to be your 50th- did you get your AARP card yet? It gets you discounted travel I think. :D

Happy Birthday!

Cheyenne are you sure?

I can't find shadowsource's birthday listed...

Oh well **shrugs shoulders not wanting to be left out**

Happy Birthday shadowsource. Are you sure you're old enough to be on a porn site?

:D

Nope, I'm serious. He posted he was 19 in 1971 on his travelogue about picking up hitchhikers in East Germany. Assuming that trip was before the end of October, 1971, and combining the facts with his posts last night about celebrating his birthday this past weekend, Shadow is now 50 and AARP eligible.
I'm great with numbers and have an excellent memory for details. What can I say?

Oh...

Anyway it gave me a chance to tour the Woodstock Inn...

Great looking place...

Thanks for sharing the link.

:)

Ah I see. This is part of the ongoing argument...

:)

Nope, it really is his birthday! Or it was, a few days ago. I just wanted him to have a birthday thread like everyone else. Of course, the fact that he doesn't seem to want to be that old has nothing to do with it. Nope, not at all. ;)

By the way, I "torture" people in real life on their milestone birthdays, too. For friends, I usually start sending them daily birthday cards a month before the event. By the time the real birthday gets here, they aren't so sad about turning 40 or 50 or 60. They are just happy that the cards stop coming to remind them! LOL

HAPPY 5-0 SHADOWSOURCE!!
getting closer to retirement now!
best wishes on your birthday!

Happy 50 Shadowsource!

ROTFLMAO.
Perhaps we should get Shadow to petition that having to divulge your date of birth is an infringement of our civil liberties and an example of repressive and unwarranted intrusion into our private lives. :)

Anyway Congratulations. Proof that there is life after 40

It's a well-kept secret that life after 40 is wildly wonderful. You finally have the moeny, time, and confidence - and you've stopped being embarassed by what you need and want - to go after the more exotic things you've not yet done, said, tasted, felt, seen, rolled in, made love to, etc. Life is grand after 40. Don't tell anyone i'm the one who spilled the proverbial beans though, okay? ;)

Shadowsource? Your posts are some of those i almost always read (unless they're political - but i don't read/get involved in many of those anyway), knowing you're going to be level-headed, articulate, and fair-minded - and that i'll be the better off for having read them. Happy Birthday.

Cymbidia

Having recently hit 40, I hope you're right.
I saw a post by someone once, that described hitting thirty as climbing to the top of a mountain and being able to see over onto the other side.
In my case, when I climbed my "hit 30" mountain all I saw was a bigger mountain, the other side. Lets hope the view from the top of my "hit 40" mountain will be pleasanter. (Or is this just another way of saying it's all downhill from here.) :(

Happy Birthday Day .....

from one New Yorker to another !

Woodstock? I've been there may times ..... very bohemian ...... funky little town .... too young for the festival though

I've never been there - and was WAY too young for the festival. I was just 11 and barely out of 6th grade.

Of course, there would have been millions of people there if everyone who claims to have been at Woodstock for that festival actually was!

i would have posted earlier but got stuck scrolling down when i saw cym's new av...

oh my

anyway, happy birthday shadow...or is it?...i guess it doesn't matter in the long run...at the very least i'll wish you happy

Happy birthday Old Boy! You are just over 11 months older than me, so I guess this is what I get to look forward to.

*exit stage right singing "When I get older, losing my hair..."*

You don't have to TELL me. If I really want to know, I'll figure it out! And then SURPRISE you.

I also like to give wooden canes in RL to those turning 40, in particular. And confetti! I love confetti to celebrate. I can cover an entire office in confetti in less than 5 minutes flat. :)

I've never understood the people who have such a huge problem with getting older- it sure beats the alternative. Right, Shadow? Where the hell are ya?

okay well, yes, and thank you -

Only one of the people in the hot tub in Virginia actually knew my age, and she only found out after we'd been dating for two months. I'm sensitive about my age, and yes, I did attend Woodstock, at 17, after my freshman year at university, lost my friends, had more fun then they did. Tripped four times, and lost a lot of insecurities because I suddenly found that I was unafraid, alone in a crowd of 500,000 souls. Woke up in the mud during a sunrise "Pinball Wizard" and a stranger gave me a very cold can of pineapple juice - glory!

I'm a bit alarmed. I even found a gray hair Sunday morning. And yes, I did get a letter from the AARP, which freaked me out considerably. It didn't seem to offer anything I could use, except that they're fighting to save Social Security, which some know well is a concern of mine. Fortunately, I've kicked ass in the stock market since 9/20, focusing on practical paranoia, which is an old forte of mine. I don't have all that much money, due to art efforts, so I'm hardly retired. But I'm very free, as I work for myself and don't take much shit from people.

Thank you all for your kind wishes. Most of my friends don't know it was my birthday, and very few know which it was. Due to the issues of my onetime quickie to Magdeburg, I revealed it.

Wish I could post my URL for my art things/achievements and my photos. But you know how it is....

Thanks for the kind words. My computer blew up yesterday (last week Time Warner plugged my cable into their system, though I'm with another company, so I was down for four days), so I've been crashed since 9am Thursday.

I just checked in to see if anyone had attacked me further while I was offline. Miles' claim that I was Marxist occurred while I was off at a wedding and my birthday, and I returned in a glorious mood to find that I was supposed to be a turd in a punchbowl.

I have since been thinking of quitting this place, as it's really a drag to be placed on the defensive constantly - not for my unorthodox ideas, which welcome divergence, but for being false. So I searched to see who had attacked me, and found this - a surprise.

Be well.

Consider it a temporary truce for your birthday. However, you'll find I'm still the same nerd with the sharp pencil, ever watching and taking notes to cross reference. :D

Your friends aren't that observant if they managed to miss it being your 50th birthday. I still don't understand why you wouldn't tell them (unless they are all in their 20's and then that's a different issue.) Birthdays are a happy time- at any age! As I said, consider the alternative.

As for that AARP card- my mom has one. You can use it for discounts at some hotel chains, and at restaurants. Especially for the 4:30 pm early bird specials. :p It won't help you much with social security, I'm afraid.
