whey hey! i brought my first pair today, they felt really nice, only problem is that all the ones i saw had the quick release switch on them, hence there is no real need for the keys! why do they do this?

even in ann summers they don't have real one

I know in Oz it is ilegal to sell them without the quick release, actually in some places there even that is illegal. The only ones that seem to come otherwise are police issue, so if you befriend a nice police officer, who knows?:D

If you want handcuffs you can't remove yourself, maybe aim for leathercuffs where they have solder the chain between. The ones I have seen you cant open yourself if the chain is short.

The cuffs with the release are novelty items, meant for "play". Hehe.

Supposedly, "real" handcuffs are for sale only to those in law enforcement, but that's nonsense, they're readily available. Most any online bondage supply outfit has a selection.

Good quality cuffs don't have sharp edges, and do have reliable locks that open with standard keys.
A lot of the novelty items come with non-standard keyholes, which can cause problems...

I found a pair of Handcuffs in a sex shop .. they were a combination of handcuffs and ankle cuffs with a short piece of chain linking wrists and ankle together.. The funny thing with them was that they handcuffs had the quick release on then while the ankle cuffs did not and required the key to unlock them. so even if you got your hands free you are still bound by the ankles untill unlocked with the key.
Although the ankle cuffs are bigger ib diameter perhaps you could remove the linking chain from between the handcuff and anklecuff and you will have a nice pair of lockable handcuffs..
Good luck with your shopping

anyone got any links to where you can buy the non safety release ones in the uk? they are good, but when you know you can escape whenever you like it takes away the enjoyment

Well from a professional's (no not pro-sub...lol) real handcuffs are a tricky endevour. Thats is if you plan to use them safely and correctly.

Law Enforcement officers get hours of training on proper handcuff application. They seem very simple and straight forward but there things that you need to know.

The most important thing is not to over tighten them. Cuffs are brutal and unforgiving. There should always be at least one finger's width (easily fit in) between the metal and the skin. That is still plenty tight.

Next, "real" handcuffs have a double-lock mechanism that you have to engage to avoid injury. On the top edge of the cuffs you will find recessed dentent pins. That is what the little point on the end of the cuff key is for. After the cuffs are clicked into place you push in both pins. This locks the ratchet so that the cuffs cannot continue to tighten. Not doing this will likely result in them working tighter and tighter. To unlock the cuffs you turn the key one way to free the double-lock then the other to release the ratchet.

Also, it is important to place the key holes facing out. This will make it much easier and safer to remove the cuffs. Wrists don't bend around to well to accomodate easier key access! This is especially important if you need to get them off in a hurry. Most cops "load" their cuffs in the pouch. Setting them out so they come just as they want them to go on.

Oh and non of that TV crap where you slap the cuffs onto the wrists. Don't try it, don't do it. Open them before applying and then apply slowly.

And I would highly recommend avoiding hinged cuffs. They are extremely restirctive and can be very dangerous. Chained cuffs are a little more forgiving.

I would not recommend handcuffs for play as they can be tricky, unforgiven, and leave some very real marks that cannot be hidden.

I agree with Dreaming Lillith, go with leather.

We like leather cuffs. They really are better. They're more comfortable and they don't leave marks; yet they are secure-- she cannot get out of them.
