Half of the trouble would be cleared, away, if Trump would release his tax returns.
Donald Trump Refuses To Release Tax Returns, Again
1/11/17
REPORTER: Do you believe the hacking was justified and will you release your tax returns to prove what you're saying about no deals in Russia?
TRUMP: I'm not releasing the tax returns because as you know, they're under audit.
REPORTER: they've been under audit since the '70s.
TRUMP: The only one that cares about my tax returns are the reporters, okay?
REPORTER: You don't think the American public is concerned about it?
TRUMP: I don't think so. I won. no, I don't think they care at all. I think you care. I don't think they care at all. I think you care.

First, the tax return reveals a person's annual income. A person's net worth is not disclosed, but voters would gain an understanding of a person's cash flow. Second, voters would understand the sources of a person's income, such as how much comes from certain businesses, speeches, dividends, capital gains and so forth.
Third, a tax return would disclose how much a person gives to charity. Mitt Romney gave almost $2.3 million to charity in 2011, while Bill and Hillary Clinton gave $3 million to charity in 2014. We know these figures because of information in their tax returns.
Fourth, a tax return would reveal how aggressive Trump has been on his taxes. There is no black-and-white approach to taxes; there are many gray areas subject to interpretation, especially regarding deductions. Trump frequently suggests that he knows how to game the system, so voters would learn whether he takes the same approach to his taxes.
Finally, the tax returns would disclose what percentage of Trump's income.

Press conference complete with cheerleaders and piped in soundtrack.?
"...it would help, by the way, if Trump, as president, stops inviting supporters to the briefing room to yell, "Trump! Trump! Trump!" as they did on Wednesday at Trump Tower. These supporters cheered wildly when Trump suggested that no one cares about his tax forms except reporters."
Whether America cares or not is not the issue. Reporters search for facts. Trump disrespects that search. As Trump himself might say, "Does anyone in this room think anything is going to change after Jan. 20?"

60% of Americans think Trump should release his returns, according to a Pew Research Center poll published this month.
This notion that many Americans do, in fact, care about Trump's tax information and the implications his financial dealings could have while he's in power was supported by a tweet Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden posted earlier today.
Trump won't sell his business nor place his assets in a blind trust, like it was recommended he should do.
Tragically, the Trump plan to deal with his business conflicts announced today falls short in every respect,” Norm Eisen, a former top White House ethics lawyer for President Obama, told Politico. "Mr. Trump’s ill-advised course will precipitate scandal and corruption."

When a reporter asked him whether he would release his taxes to prove that, he once again demurred, claiming they are under audit. (He has not proved that claim, and the IRS says there’s nothing to prevent him from releasing taxes that are under audit.) Yet he also seemed to suggest that having won the election, he no longer had any incentive to release the returns.
The details of Trump’s plan to solve his conflicts of interest remain to be explored and parsed, though he made several peculiar comments during the press conference. He asserted, dubiously, that he has very little debt.
Conflict of interest ?
While not all conflicts-of-interest laws apply to the president, the lack of legal constraints does not mean conflicts of interest cannot exist. Moreover, Trump is still subject to the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause, among other rules.
