Thomas:
Setting in front of the window even after the deer had bounded off Thomas was frosen with awe at what he had just seen. It was a sign, the deer was offering him freedom! And he knew he had to accept! He suddenly stood, went to his bed, grabbing his blanket he wrapped it about his arm, a wild smile growing on his lips as he looked up at the window. The only thought on his mind was being as free as that deer!
Again he was in front of the window and as he pulled his arm back to strike the glass he saw his father's wagon weeling back up the road. Too late though, he was committed to his swing. And as his wrapped up arm struck the glass it shattered in one blow, sending glass scattering all across the ground. He was half out the window as he heard his fathers shouting. The priest he had brought with him was calling to him as well as Thomas tossed his blanket out over the shattered glass and hopped down on it. They were well away from him still and as he set off running all he could hear was muffled shouts from them, not able to make out the words, and not caring to.
