So you do not own guns and you want the following:

A 9mm pistol
A Shotgun ( dual purpose; self defense, trap)
A AR

You are going to buy three of each. 1 for each of your sons as well. Money is not really a object, but set a 18K limit for all.

What do you recommend?

A shotgun for shooting trap is probably too long for a self-defense shotgun, although it would still work. A short, pistol grip pump action shotgun would be best for self-defense, but that wouldn't work for trap.

Have you ever shot a shotgun with a pistol grip? Those 3" mags are hard on the wrist.

I have yet to see any of the great trapshooters use their penis to break the clay.

You must have a different technique in England.

You're likely to spawn a new Olympic sport!

They are good for going around the corner in your house without someone grabbing the barrel and taking it away from you. And the pump action sound is more effective then shooting a hole in your wall.

.45 ACP, 9mm is for sissies and Tupperware guns. :)

Probably because Americans are notably deficient in the phallus department.

My recommendations:

MRI Baby Dessert Eagle or the Sig Pro sp2022

Benelli M2 or the Remington Versa Max

Sig Sauer M400SRP or the colt AR15

The whole Gun=Phallus argument is a bit tired and boring. Freud has been thoroughly discredited in the 70 years subsequent to his being relevant.

Of course, with me I shoot skeet because I wish I had a phallus, so of course my shotgun is a phallic symbol. When I break 23 or more in a round, I fake hump my shotgun just so everyone knows it represents a cock. I'll be allowed back on the range when I finish my essay about safe gun sex.

OK, my choices are a little different and mostly all are based on the same reasoning.

Beretta 92FS

Remington 870

Tricked up Ruger Mini-14 (This is somewhat of a subjective choice, I just don't like the 'boing' of the AR-15, but the 15 is a good choice too.)

My reasons are that all of the above have been manufactured in the millions. Parts are readily available and even less than master gunsmiths can work on them without screwing anything up. The 870 has more barrels, stocks, etc. available on the after market than any other shotgun, and the same can be said of the mini-14. The Beretta is also easily reworked for accuracy and has many 'accessories' available.

Nothing wrong with your choices, but looking 40 years into the future I'd stick with mine.

Yeah I get your choices... The choices I made are more for who I am making them for. The "owner" who has no guns wants one of each. He asked if 40K would be enough to buy all that for himself and two sons. I told him half that should be fine....

I figured he would want something he could walk in to his range (in his exclusive community) and brag about.

Oh.... He also wanted a pistol for his wife, "small, like the bond gun" So I told he the W PPK 7.62mm.
