Ignoring the actual financial and environmental costs and consequences of considering alternatives to get any particular job done is foolish. It would be just as foolish to ignore possible future Innovations or not to utilize the innovations that are currently available. Nobody does that.

Only really foolish people believe that it is physically possible to power the world in a financially and environmentally sane way with solar and wind alone.

Your examples are not examples of innovation. They are, rather, examples of the government interfering with the Natural Evolution of innovation and favoring inefficient systems based on the scaremongering of junk science.

Burn rate uphill is 115 gals diesel an hour.

Tank on a 793(C) is 1,300 gal tank. Best practices is to refuel within 1,100 gals.

That just happens to be one of the most commonly used trucks in mining. The Cat 797 is even more efficient with a capacity of 400 tons. Horsepower from twin 10 cylinder Cat motors is 4,000 hp. It can climb a 10% grade at 10 mph. Burns more fuel per ton uphill, but 20% increase in speed means more dirt per hour. It can operate an entire 12 hour shift on it's 2,000 gal tank.

Not a chance in hell a battery pack that a truck could carry in addition to its 400 ton load could power combined 3,000 kilowatt motors for 12 hours. Because math.

No good little authoritarian anarchist <sic> ( as RDS would label you ) such as yourself could ban all use of fossil fuels in order to force mining concerns to use many more smaller trucks with long idle cycles. That would move all mining to China and Africa. As it stands right now in nearly all rare earths are mined in China there's only one rate earth mine in the entire United States.

You're going to need rare earth minerals.. lots of rare earth minerals. . .to do any of the above.

Just the coper wire you would need in your Utopia is not available at the highest rate of copper production in human history. The richest copper or that I know about was in the mine at 10 K where the material was producing 4% of each load in copper. The highest quality copper deposit in the largest mine in North America is 1% but typically the yield is more like .4%. A 793 loaded to capacity with high grade ore has 24,960 lbs of copper. For efficiency reasons and better maintenance duty cycles they aim for 268 tons, rather than 312, lowering the max copper you would get in only the richest deposits to about 10 tons per load. That doesn't begin to factor in the cost of moving all of the overburden just to get to that ore.

But you just keep pretending that these logistical hurdles are not insurmountable.

What are you personally going to convert to using an all-electric car and powering it only from the solar panels that you're going to install on your roof?
