Greta!

Or don't....she's clearly a world leader in the eyes of 'progressive' folks.

I think they should tour her all over the USA. :D

And put her on CNN so they can recycle her message over and over and over and over 24/7.
On a positive note, it’ll give their network another subject to talk about besides Trump.

How is it even possible this expert is not running a multinational energy corporation, or leading think tanks and shaping policy?

Why is this genius going to waste, driving cab and living a hand-to-mouth existence?

Damn you, Obama!

So, again, what's the plan. What energy resources could possibly convert the whole planet to green energy and wean us off fossil fuels in the next 12 years?

The technology for energy storage is still in its embryonic stage. Geothermal has its own greenhouse gas issues. No new dams, that goes against environmentalist. No nuclear reactors, the very source that could provide clean, efficient energy with substantial output and the science is already here but environmental groups like clamshell, shad alliance, green peace, friends of the earth and critical mass protest their development. We have organizations fighting fracking and the use of natural gas which is a giant leap forward towards controlling carbon emissions and greenhouse gasses.

Companies like Exxon-Mobil spend billions of dollars on clean energy research.

Solar and wind are being used now but can't produce the output needed. Senator Ted Kennedy was a staunch lobbyist for clean energy till they put windmills in his backyard, he put a stop to that.

Energy storage is a big problem that needs to be solves. Nuclear is a form of clean stored energy that can be converted to electrical in mass quantity. Clean air and water is important to everyone but solving our energy needs is resisted at every turn.

Speeches don't make things happen, research and development does. Destroying our economy isn't in our best interest. The responsibility to clean the planet has to be an equally shared responsibility not relegated to just a few. Democratic countries are chastised unfairly while countries like Russia, China, N Korea as well as India are given a pass.

I'd be extremely grateful if you'd let me know when you hear or read a mainstream media news report on this retraction.

I'm certain the NY Times or the WaPo or Bloomberg or Auntie Beeb (the BBC) or NPR or AP's Seth Borenstein will be the first to inform the public.

TIA

"Nature" Paper On Ocean Warming Retracted

by Retraction Watch

"...'Nature' is retracting a 2018 paper which found that the oceans are warming much faster than predicted by previous models of climate change.

The article, "Quantification of ocean heat uptake from changes in atmospheric O2 and CO2 composition,” appeared at last October but quickly drew the attention of an influential critic who said the analysis was flawed.

The authors agreed, and within three weeks the paper received the following update:

"We would like to alert readers that the authors have informed us of errors in the paper. An implication of the errors is that the uncertainties in ocean heat content are substantially underestimated. We are working with the authors to establish the quantitative impact of the errors on the published results, at which point in time we will provide a further update."
At the time, Ralph Keeling, of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, Calif., and a co-author of the article, was gracious about the error. The San Diego Tribune quoted the researcher saying:

"When we were confronted with his insight it became immediately clear there was an issue there. We’re grateful to have it be pointed out quickly so that we could correct it quickly."
Now, nearly more than 10 months later, Nature is pulling the plug on the article..."

75000 lb is gross vehicle weight. The actual payload is closer to 55000 pounds. I was rated for 624, 000 lbs...And I can refuel in 20 minutes.

So sure if you can buy 11 Tesla trucks for 2.5 million dollars and they can each recharge in 20 minutes then this is a totally workable solution. My guess is you would need more like 15-18 trucks for 2.5 million dollars because of the idle time.

A few years ago no electric vehicles existed other than golf carts or children's toys. Now a medium load tractor trailer is testing for the market. Electric passenger cars are everywhere.

How many years did it take to go from the model T to 80 ton tractor trailers?

Why do you rail against market driven innovation?

Why do you rail against market driven innovation?

Nobody is railing against market driven innovation....except the 'green' and 'progressive' folks who want to stick a gun to everyone's head and a hand in everyone's pocket to force folks into it. ;)

Simply stating the bottom line of old technology that new tech has to beat to be competitive isn't railing against anything. Though I could see why one might want to try and misrepresent it as such if you're one of those anti-market by any means necessary big government for the environment types.

Leave it to the w(R)ongs to suggest gun violence. Civilized people don't need to go there.

Yes.

Marhet-driven means choices.
Electric vehicles have been around for some time now,
but until battery technology improved, they were not a good choice.
Since they were not a good choice, the markets featured better choices.
Now, for a lot of people, they are a good choice, but some of that choice is social.

"How aware and woke does this vehicle make me look!"

This is beyond stupid.
The gun reference here is a very old one
alluding to the idea that government is force...

The "progressive" and "green" left are the ones demanding gun violence.

Just because you hire some cops to hold the gun for you doesn't change what you're doing. ;)

But I'm glad we agree there is no violence (and thus no legislation or regulation) needed.

I should take the CRX for a spin today just to hear the turbo spool and sniff the hydrocarbons.

Reminds me of the movies "Soylent Green" and "Logan's Run" Blind "cult followers"

"...the Resplandy et al. paper has today been retracted, at Nature’s request. This article at Retraction Watch covers the story. The Retraction Notice by the authors at Nature reads:

Shortly after publication, arising from comments from Nicholas Lewis, we realized that our reported uncertainties were underestimated owing to our treatment of certain systematic errors as random errors. In addition, we became aware of several smaller issues in our analysis of uncertainty. Although correcting these issues did not substantially change the central estimate of ocean warming, it led to a roughly fourfold increase in uncertainties, significantly weakening implications for an upward revision of ocean warming and climate sensitivity. Because of these weaker implications, the Nature editors asked for a Retraction, which we accept. Despite the revised uncertainties, our method remains valid and provides an estimate of ocean warming that is independent of the ocean data underpinning other approaches. The revised paper, with corrected uncertainties, will be submitted to another journal. The Retraction will contain a link to the new publication, if and when it is published.
I believe that this saga, as well as showing how ineffective journal peer review tends to be in spotting problematic issues in papers, illustrates the need for a much closer involvement of statisticians in climate science research..."

I like how everyone on the left who's deifying a girl with mental disabilities as the inspiration for their global policy initiatives can talk shit about that post but none of them can refute it.

Maybe they should have thought about that before deciding to try and use her and her sobbing mental meltdown to try and sell the idea that environmental concerns justify their vile political ideology.

Would you take relationship or financial advice from a 16 year old Aspie girl suffering from total emotional incontinence?

Bet you would...probably why you're a "progressive". :D

So, you have no problem with her being indirectly sexually objectified by someone via Jeffrey Epstein.

Way to go with your eternal contrarianism, guy. Nothing ever gets by you when it comes to shitting on the "lefties," eh? ;)

I would if that was what happened.

But it's not...

What did happen is the left got called out for their double standards.

It's clear they think 16 y/o girls with mental disabilities and total emotional incontinence is competent enough to lead you in your global policy stances.

But you don't think 16 y/o girls without disabilities are competent enough to give consent.

Hmmm.....wonder why that is. :D

Don't like it? Maybe you should up your standards for global leadership beyond that of a mentally disabled 16 year old girl. ;)

How many years did it take to go from the model T to 80 ton tractor trailers?

Why do you rail against market driven innovation?

Why do you hate the environment?

Why do you hate mathematics and the law of conservation of energy?

There is no free lunch; hauling rocks uphill takes energy. I happen to know that it takes 2300 horsepower to move 312 tons up a 10% grade at 8 mph.

There are costs to generate electricity. There are costs to store electricity. There are costs to develop systems that harness that electricity. If it's viable by all means use it if the math says it's not possible then don't use it. There's a reason that mines use immense mining truck it's not just because they look cool and are bitching to slide around in the mud, it's because it's the most efficient way to move material. Not only do you have one and only one platform to maintain one and only one driver to pay you also are only taking up space on the Halul Road with one vehicle to move that much material.

Pointing out that the physical limitations of a less efficient way of storing energy than diesel is simply that. Nobody's against Innovation. Pretending that an innovation exists that doesn't is foolish. Counting on future Innovations coming online where math says it is not feasible is foolish.

Ignoring the actual financial and environmental costs and consequences of considering alternatives to get any particular job done is foolish. It would be just as foolish to ignore possible future Innovations or not to utilize the innovations that are currently available. Nobody does that.

Only really foolish people believe that it is physically possible to power the world in a financially and environmentally sane way with solar and wind alone.

Your examples are not examples of innovation. They are, rather, examples of the government interfering with the Natural Evolution of innovation and favoring inefficient systems based on the scaremongering of junk science.

She is Montreal tomorrow. Schools are letting kids skip the day to go see her.

Quoted from a friend:
"I find it incredibly ironic that the majority of these Fox News types that are so angry at this young girl and her admirers, would still regard someone like Billy Graham as a profound sage. A man who used the same level of hyperbole and emotional melodrama in his speeches, whilst telling millions around the world that the Earth was 6000 years old and a bronze age man who walked on water came back from the dead, sat in a throne in the sky while swords came out of his mouth to the tune of angels blowing horns.
Hey tough guys, if you can find an actual rational reason to be angry with her aside from the fact that you hate your life, well you're in luck, she's in town tomorrow, go down to the march and say it to her face. But I know not one of you will, because there is no rational reason."

She's not a leader but a young inspired voice.

So then what the fuck is she doing at the UN trying to influence global policy? LOL

And what makes her voice more inspired and more competent than any other 16 year old girl, especially ones who aren't diagnosed with mental illness and disabilities???

Normal 16 year olds aren't competent enough to give consent, make any life choices of their own or own property by the lefts own standards yet here they are trotting her out in front of the UN to tell them what they need to do!

She's gonna inherit the world older people will leave behind. She's gonna have to live in that. So she's concerned about that. She had a stage to say something and she said it. Peeps got all verklempt about her telling a truth that they can't handle.

But yeah, let's all shit on her for being concerned about the world.

Don't like it? Don't like her? Don't like what she's saying? Maybe you should up your standards for people who actually give a fuck about the world.
