Greta!

Thank you for confirming your economic illiteracy.

Come back when you can explain why humans no longer have a life expectancy of 35 years and why we aren't living in cold, dark caves.

"...This is why Rocket's moment in history is unique. That soot-blackened locomotive sits squarely at the deflection point where a line describing human productivity (and therefore human welfare) that had been as flat as Kansas for a hundred centuries made a turn like the business end of a hockey stick. Rocket is when humanity finally learned to run twice as fast.

It's still running today. If you examined the years since 1800 in twenty year-increments, and charted every way that human welfare can be expressed in numbers— not just annual per capita GDP, which climbed to more than $6,000 by 2000, but mortality at birth (in fact, mortality at any age); calories consumed; prevalence of disease; average height of adults; percentage of lifetime spent disabled; percentage of population enrolled in primary, secondary, and postsecondary education; illiteracy; and annual hours of leisure time— the chart will show every measure better at the end of the period than it was at the beginning. And the phenomenon isn't restricted to Europe and North America; the same improvements have occurred in every region of the world. A baby born in France in 1800 could expect to live thirty years— twenty-five years less than a baby born in the Republic of the Congo in 2000. The nineteenth century French infant would be at a significant risk of starvation, infectious disease, and violence, and even if he or she were to survive into adulthood, would be far less likely to learn how to read..."

You should form your own opinions before deriding anyone else's.

The clowns (i.e., the parents) who have, quite literally, abused this child ought to be formally prosecuted.

Actually, the earth does have a carrying capacity for the human species, and it is largely based upon total number of humans and average consumption of non-sustainable resources per human.

And then the earth has a sanity or quality-of-life capacity that is largely based on whether we destroy most other species in our cancer-like expansion of human "development" sprawl.

I guess that carrying capacity is a theoretical concept, some estimate between 2 and 40 billion. If that's true then we have not nearly tested our limits. Presently we're at 7 billion and at the present growth rate it's projected to double in 200 years. Scientist estimate 10 billion is probably a good place to stop.

One thing we know for sure, to end the use of fossil fuels at this stage in human development the quality of life index will go to zero and we won't have to worry about it.

Lots and lots of hypothetical!

Coati, like most "progressives", considers humanity a disease....cancer.

Just like Agent Smith.

That about sums it all up right there now doesn't it???:D So much progress.

What makes you think that isn't the whole point???

Humanity is a cancer....remember??:) Sooooooooo much progress!!!

Pay-to-play opinion piece. Maybe when the author speaks in front of the UN, we will get to hear him for free.

Like speaking in front of the dolts at the inept, corrupt, feckless UN means anything at all. It is a forum for posers to posture. You would fit right in.

Well, what I posted earlier, is that, what the lefty lunes consider the appropriate remedy is self extermination.

There was an article at MSNBC in a parallel vein. It more or less ignores the obvious problems with her hyperbolic hysterics (I don't think even Frodo shares her short horizon doom and gloom) it focused on the damage this tactic of trotting her put and making it an us versus "them" fight will only harden positions.

They actually bring it all the way back to Elizabeth Warren talking about let's not worry about cheeseburgers and straws let's go after those fat cats in the energy sector and so on.

Or the author points out is that we made great strides in cleaning up our environment of actual pollutants once we made it personal where every person could chip in and feel like they were making a difference and actually cared about the environment. Now we've got assholes like Frodo who doesn't drive a Prius castigating me who does drive a Prius because I think a lot of what he's spouting hus nonsense. He gets to pretend he's smarter than me and more knowledgeable than me and that I'm a horrible person even though I'm personally doing more about the environment than he is because he wants to force governments to force corporations to do things where I figure I'll do my part and let the rest of the world take care of itself.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/24/how-greta-thunbergs-rise-could-backfire-on-environmentalists.html

The analog here is abortion and gun control nobody's going to bend an inch.

The next logical step that that author doesn't take is that the left hijacked the environmental movement in an effort to use it as a vehicle for wealth redistribution and in doing so have lost over half of the country's support.

What a tone-deaf load of conager.

Conflating "economic prosperity" with "environmental well-being".

in other words, "we're prospering right now, get over it".

Asinine commentary.

Orlly?

Without petrochemicals and internal combustion driven tractors by now we would have had to have completely decimated the last of every corner of the globe's native vegetation just to feed people. There are no environmentalist in countries where people are freezing and starving. There would be a lot of freezing and starving people if not for Big Oil and Gas.

Tell us again how solar is the future yet you still don't have solar panels on the roof of your home.

Nobody's going to run a steel foundry with solar panels. Nobody's going to convert bauxite ore recycle aluminum with solar panels. Nobody's going to mine for all the materials needed for solar panels and batteries using solar panels.

Thanks, Greta.

I don't expect pinched minds to understand the need for an energy and resource management future that is based upon ecological science, rather than on right-wing ideology.

Rail on with your porn board rants, Lit Deplorables! But nature won't conform to your ideological beliefs.

Meanwhile, thank you, Greta, for stirring the pot at a world-wide scale. I know this is a difficult path you have taken.

Later, 'gators.

Stirring the pot is not solving problems. You haven't added to the solution you just throw out talking points. People challenge you and you melt like a snowflake.

Stirring the pot is not solving problems.

The problem is that the people who have the means to solve the problems are either dragging their ass to solve the problems or don't want to solve the problems because they personally don't have a problem with the problems because they're rich enough to not be affected by the problems.

And then when it's too late to solve the problems, the problems will solve us.

er, so natural global warming has stopped for the last two hundred years? thank god co2 output has replaced it.

So the problem is that they are rich, and they aren't spending their money the way that those who are not rich, wish the rich people would.

Back to this not having a fucking thing to do with the environment :D

^^ seems to think ecological science calls for a socialistic economy. :D

LOL you can't even make this shit up.

They aren't going to conform to yours either comrade. ;)

Whether or not you agree with her point of view, young people being passionate about making a better world is a good thing. It's when they give up on the world and aspire to nothing more than the next fix that I despair.

She's young, naive, primarily communicating in a second language, and autistic. Anyone making personal attacks on the kid needs punching in the throat. Repeatedly.

I'll hold your beer.

Oh look, a steel foundry run on solar panels.

So ZUMI, what do you think the problem is? What does " too late" look like"? When is too late? Who's dragging their ass?

Wealthy countries tend to devote more resources to environmental preservation and restoration, and health in general. Are you trying to make a point? Or maybe you're just falling behind on science and technology developments.

*chuckle*
