Got a vasectomy...

"Luck" is for losers. Genes absolutely count.

Wait. Please don't tell me I barged into a conversation about the talented tenth! I just got a flashback of my mom forcing my sister to sing To Be Young Gifted and Black for her music camp audition.

If only it did. :( Imagine the need for no child protection services/social service intervention in to family life.

I think its better to regret not having had children, than to regret having had them.

If I had to guess which is worse I'd think so too. Hard for the parents, hard for the child if you're talking about people who feel trapped by their choices. In the not feeling particularly trapped department....a cousin of mine was basically orphaned by both his parents and was brought up by other loving relatives, but he was haunted by the disappearance of his mother, in particular. I'll never know how his mom feels about it, but for his father ... while the regrets about what he did to his son came much later, I doubt he regrets siring him.

For anybody considering one: give yourself time to heal.

I watched porn six days after surgery, didn't lay a hand on myself = still ended up with two black and blue golf balls. Watch baseball instead. Or Honey Boo Boo.

Most normal people have a significant other.

Congrats, Rory. I tried to talk my ex into doing this after a stillbirth, a few miscarriages, and two c-sections. I think he was insecure, or holding out for wife #2. :)

I've now discovered that two people I know well disapprove of what I've done. #2 is heavily invested in the Bible; no surprise there.

Everything is entirely back to normal, except that I'm shooting blanks. On my list of life's good decisions, this one is ranking almost number one.

But...are you fucking anybody, particularly someone with a uterus? Otherwise, what's the point?

No kids for me. Not a hasty decision, either - gave myself years before going through with it.

My doctor told me 30 ejaculations before a sperm test. (Screw Adderall; this is the best prescription, ever.)

What's your post-vasectomy life been like?
Post vasectomy life has been great. No rubbers, no foams, no creams; just jump in the bed and boink. More important, zero regrets. Don't let any of the posters confuse you by comparing fertility with intelligence or genetic preference. If I had to do it over again, I would do the same thing the same way.

In truth, there was one minor disappointment. After the procedure, there was some swelling of the testicles. Looking at them swollen, I thought it would be neat if they stayed that large. No such luck, back to normal size in short order.

I live in a very conservative area, and the "really? tell me more..." reactions from the ladies is a lot of fun. It's not as common here.

I agree with you Buddy. I never looked back however I did look down after the procedure. :D Once frozen on each side, the procedure lasted about an hour and then drove myself home afterwards. When I got home my wife asked me how I was feeling. Not so bad, I said. That's when she asked me to go get a few items at the grocery store. So I did, but was walking funny. Took a few tylenols for some pain and that was it. I guess I was lucky. My brother spent three days at the hospital. He had complications after his procedure.
