Here's the point about the NFL that Goodell and almost everyone in this thread seems to be forgetting. The league is an entertainment industry, and it is not smart to piss off 50 percent of your fan base.
When Kaepernik started this shitstorm a few years ago, my Sunday golf group would finish and go into the clubhouse and golf and NASCAR would be on TV. If NASCAR wasn't scheduled, it was just golf.
No one complained. The year before, all three TVs were on the NFL on different games.
Goodell may think he has some leeway because fans will be hungry for action coming off the pandemic. He may be right.
Or maybe fans will be so used to having nothing, they might figure something that includes a poke in the eye with a sharp stick isn't worth it.

P.S.: And I don't buy the "This is not about the flag" bullshit. If it's not, let the players wear armbands or something else. When you take a knee when the flag is presented, it is about the flag.

NFL has spent decades aligning its branding to the "USA" brand including military celebrations and ceremonies before games and at half time.

They are getting exactly what they sought! It's more than just football which was their goal.
