Melody (a.k.a. "Marina")
As Melody found herself being pushed together with a group of others, there was a commotion from behind.
She saw... a woman chained to a wall, snarling at an auction official. She found herself staring, and thinking about someone else other than herself for the first time in quite a few hours. The woman looked striking with her shaved head and the iron glint in her eyes. Melody mildly wondered what horrible offense she commited to be sold as a slave against her will. Well whatever it was, Melody thought, the woman probably deserved her fate.
And then there was no time to be distracted any longer. Melody found herself being hustled along with about nine other slaves towards the bidding block.
As she stepped up to the observation block her heart sank and panic began to rise again. What was she doing? Was she crazy? Letting herself be sold as a lowly slave? Who knew what sort of owner she might end up with!
She forced her panic down -- she had no choice. What could she do now? Change her mind, run to an official and tell them who she really was? Then, even if they did believe her and try to get her out, she would be found and killed for sure as her true identity was revealed. No! She had to keep going with this plan of hers. It was her only chance now for survival.
She stood tall and proud on the block with the other slaves being bid on. It took everything in her to keep her lip from trembling... she felt at any moment she would crack and begin sobbing again. But she didn't. She endured the humiliating moments of being viewed like some sort of cattle with everything she had in her.
She told herself over and over again that this was just a game and no one would ever truly own her. This was just a game and she was going to survive!
