[Song I penned in thought of my recently passed friend - to cancer. Her husband, also a very good buddy of mine - gave me an old Sears Silvertone guitar at the funeral, for letting them use our apartment in NYC so she could seek treatment at Sloan. I thought he was nuts to do that but found out that he and his wife planned the gift only a few weeks ago. I told him I write and record a song. This is it - so far.]
A bright fading sunset
As a ship on the ocean
Heads over the horizon
Like a gray curtain closing
As light fades from our view
As in slow-motion
Don’t believe that it’s gone
Fore that is a false notion
On that far distant shore
The ship rises with the sun
A brand spanking new day
For us, another day done
As she approaches the coast
Wind in’er sail, 8 knots on a run
Far shore watchers will say
That’s her – here she comes
She’s going away, she’s coming anew
Often we must just let things be
As so too with loved ones lost
We remember, we set them free
No they’re not going away
They’re just getting harder to see
And no we will never forget
The good ship Jeanna G.
