Good article, Jack. What was once Christian mission work has become Christian imperialism. The fact that Americans go into Uganda and encourage death for homosexuals should be a wakeup call. That the church as a whole is silent on this should be of concern to all Christians. I used to subscribe to Mohler's daily newsletter until he took a radical stand against the occupy movement and failed to try to understand the issues the movement were concerned about.

The church as a whole believes liberalism is the cause for their declining numbers so their solution is to wipe liberalism out, which is why many American Christians believe the GOP when they say they're the party of family values as the extreme right talks of liberals being nothing but socialists, Marxists and controlled by Satan, and in the really off the wall Dominionist right fringe it is taught that Christians have a responsibility to take over the world, with whatever means are necessary before the End Times.

Being a Christian does not mean losing one's brain and this is why many people are leaving the church, but not necessarily leaving their faith.

I agree (I think :D). I think people are realising that actually to have faith, to be a good person, does not require worship of a deity or worse the people or houses that represent that deity.

I think faith and spirituality is as strong as ever, but they are beginning to see through the centuries of rules made by the few in order to control the many.....in the name of god.

Unfortunately, the old religions are being replaced by new ones which, at their heart, have exactly the same mentality - control of the many by the few. Be it god, darwinist selection, riches/divine right to rule, it's always the same evil disguised as right and just.
