God almighty damn, it's a cat bite!

You should be fine with what you are doing, but as you said, at the first sign of anything "not right", go to the doc.

Lots of rum... if it were me, tequila. Feel better.:rose:

My sympathies, Sarah. I've had something similar. Keep a close watch on it - if it gets nasty you'll know within 24 hours. Mine did and the next ten days are some of my least pleasant memories.

I really hope it doesn't go erk.

aww :( i hope you get better soon, and nothing worse happens. Kitty cats are sometimes very vicious... but you can't help but love them :) they're so fluffy and cuddly and cute! :D and sometimes random, i suppose. :p

God Damn it.

If it is in the least swollen in the morning go and get it checked out.

A cats teeth are long and narrow just like a hypodermic needle. They inject nasty things like bacteria deep into the wound.

Don't go through what I had to go through.

Cat

My thoughts exactly, Cat.

Even if it looks like it's scabbing over nicely, lift the edge of a scab over one of the bites and check. Mine looked OK, but still hurt like a bastard. We did the lift scab check and there was nothing good under it.

Yuck, I think I'd go to doc's anyway just to get it checked. Like Cat said, nasty business. A shallow scratch is one thing, if it bleeds well, but my great aunt had cat scratch fever. Feel better. :rose:

Yup yup yup nasty biz that.... my maine coon -american roundface mix bit the shit out of me a few weeks back (my fault as he was new and I hadn't realized that he had a very painful hip and tender belly) I had given him a bath (he just freaking stank!) plunked him in my lap belly up with the cat brush and RIPS SNARL ROAR TEAR FLIP RUN HIDE FOR THREE DAYS........My wrist and forarm looked like some one had used ginsu knives on me not including the deep punctures from very large fangs.

Since I am allergic to neosporin I used tea tree oil and tea tree oil soap to cleanse it.... I know Sarah.... pain like no ones business.... it swelled for a few days and was very tender but luckily no real erking.... hehehe

Besides Rum I would reccommend Advil too..... :) :rose::kiss::rose::cattail:

As for the big steamroller over here.... heheheh hugely happy cat who has begun adjusting well to being around humans and other cats :) (He was a feral cat rescue).....He will even let me touch his belly now but only for very brief (10-20 secs) periods of time before he warns me to back off...

Mistaken identity abounds when ya have more than one or two LOL....

I know you do good works with the kitties and other critters so.....bites be damned bring on the furbies - right?

That's what you get for naming him "Chewie." Cat took it literally ;)

:rose: Keep us updated and take it easy.

Christabell,

I currently have not 1, not 2 but 5 cats. All are rescues in one way or another.

The bite mentioned above almost caused me to lose my right foot due to Cellulitis. I still have Vascular problems from it.

Recently I was bit on the base of the Thumb by one of my cats. The next day I was diagnosed with Cellulitis and given major Anti-Biotics. (I took them for ten days and had the shits for two weeks.) Cat bites are nothing to play with.

Scratches on the other hand are something different. They can be cleaned out and taken care of easily.

Christabell: cat bites are no light matter.
The one I had almost turned into bloody poisoning. Treatment compounded by pregnancy - antibiotics were out.
I got to the doc the day after the bite occurred It had festered to the point of the muscle liquifying under the bite. Doc could put a scalpel in to the handle without encountering resistance. And that was in less than 30 hours.
I won't go into details of treatment. Suffice to say they were painful.
My leg is permanently scarred, with some tissue (muscle?) never regrowing.
Cat bites are serious business, particularly cat fight bites.

I was bitten by a cat in December and after a couple of hours, my arm was so swolllen I drove myself to the ER. Had to be given intravenous antibiotics. My vet told me he's known people who had to have infected lymph nodes removed after trying to treat cat bites on their own.

Get medical help, girl. Even if it ends up costing you more than TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS for a trip to the emergency room that I thought was insured, but was not.

It's my right arm, so I guess it was worth it. But it's the principle of the thing.

I encouraged lots of bleeding, soaked and scrubbed, propped and medicated.

So did I. All the hydrogen peroxide and iodine I poured onto the wounds didn't stop the swelling. My vet says cat bites are extra dangerous because the teeth are so sharp and leave such a deep puncture wound, even a small bite can penetrate bone. Your medication isn't likely to penetrate as deeply as the cat's tooth.

If you have heavy-duty antibiotics on hand, take them. If not, you should probably go the ER. It's not worth risking the spread of infection.
