Hey everyone,

Most of us (I think) are just writing for fun here. Who has long term goals to do with their writing, and why? (Even if they're as simple as "to achieve 100 submissions" or "to get a story on the top ten")

What part is Literotica playing in helping you achieve those goals?

Personally my goal is to write a novel some day...so far all I can do is short stories, but maybe if I excersize my creativity enough I'll get there some day = )

my goals? I think for me it is to keep writing what i enjoy and to write it with all the emotion of my first ever story.

i would love to write a story which scores consistantly above a 4.5.

and more of a dream than a goal(but i do believe the two are intertwined)i would love to get paid to write my stories, maybe even get published!

My goals as a writer... to reach 100 submissions. To write The Novel, and get it published. To win - 1st place! - in the Survivor Contest. To develop as a writer, so that I can write in more categories than I do now. I'm a little bit limited. Non-consent and Mind Control are difficult for me to write.

My goals keep changing. First of all it was to get a story submitted here. That happened before I'd even had sex (another pseudonym before you all go looking for it), so maybe that was too easy. Then it was to get a consistent H. Then it was to get critical acclaim.

Now it's to get into the top rankings or to win a competition. I've thought of an idea for a Halloween story. Now all I've got to do is write it before the deadline :D.

Although I admit I check my submissions's page to see how well received stuff is, my primary goal for writing here is slightly silly.

I need to get this stuff outta my head and writing it is the best way to do it. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to write a paper on endrocentrism in science and having weird sexual thoughts stuck in your head. So as a tension release and to clear my head I started writing here. My first sub coresponds to finals week for fall semester, subs go up at mid terms and finals :) since summer break I've been in a dry spell. No tension :)

So guess I'll just have to enjoy the summer ;) and enjoy not having goals, although I admit I have joked about writing a story for every catagory. so far erotic couplins, poetry, celebreties, mature, and non-consent are the ones done .. oh and horror how can I forget horror, now tere there is enough daylight to read more HP Lovecraft :)

Well that and enojoy the whole newly wed thing.

Muses

My goal is to write a story that satisfies my Muses.

I think that my goal is impossible.

I've never had book publishing goals, but it feels good to be posted on Lit. and know people are reading me (and even enjoying the experience!)

I find nothing more personally satisfying than writing, really doing the work of it - that's the fun. And it must be fun.

For me writing also helps me think, even writing poetry. I find myself in writing.

I think I agree with perdita on this one.

Of course, I also find myself in the morning ... that is nowhere near as satisfying. :)

Haaaaaa haaaaa ha! Glad I'm not your tailor; still can't tell what side you favor.

When I started writing here it was to collect at least one of all the different colored little letters after my stories. :D Now that I've accomplished that though I find I'm hooked and don't know if or when I'll ever stop writing here.

I guess if I've got to choose a new goal though it would be the same as Svenska's and branch out into other categories than the ones I've been writing for since I started. Since I've only written in two so far, it shouldn't be very difficult, I've just got to pick one and figure out if I have anything worth while to write about it.

Hey! I like that goal! Maybe I should steal it, since you're done with it ;)

My goal was simple at first, put out some of the ideas racing through My head. Then it moved on to the little highlighted letters. Check. Then to have a nice string of those letters close together. Check. To win a minor or major competition. Got that one somehow. Also to reach a 100 submissions. Well as I write this I have a few waiting and a bunch done so I will reach that goal shortly.

To WIN THE SURVIVOR CONTEST AND NOT ALLOW SVENSKAFLICKA TOO.:p :D Well I won't know until the end of the year on that one.

Lastly on a serious note, to publish one day. I go through the days when I think some of my best writing has been bashed, and others when I wonder what the hell was I thinking when I submitted that.

I would love to one day publish and not rub it in the noses of anyone here. Well there are a few I might taunt with it. But I would actually have to say thank you to so many of the great writers here that have either helped or spurred me on to continue.

Mainly I just want to improve my writing and keep the friendly, fun atmosphere of competition. That is my main objective. Oh and did I mention getting published?

Sure, it's all yours. But it's not like you actually need it. I've seen your page Chicklet. :p

My goal started at giving back to the authors who came before me. I styarted as a reader before I was a writer.

My first story was a pwoerful fantasy which was easy to write.

My virtue has been corrupted. I now lust for lots of views and a "H" rating. Positive feedback is nice too. Heck, any feedback might be nice. NOt death threats though.

My goal as a writer is simply to...improve, improve, improve and hopefully to always have the desire and imagination to keep writing and keep people interested in what I write.

I'd still like to write a really great short story.

Chicklet, and others, the short story is one of the truly great art forms. It should not be thought of as a starter novel. It is a completely different, although difficult to define, art form.

The modern version of the short story is as American as jazz, and just as difficult to master. Coincidentally (perhaps), the form 'began' at about the same time.

I don't think of it as a starter novel - it's just a step for me in the sense that finishing ANYTHING is a good deal. When I sit down and think "I'm going to write a novel" i get frustrated and fear I'll never be able to tie it up. To be able to put a beginning middle and end together at any length is a challenge, so for me being able to do it without losing interest is the key. That's how short stories have been my stepping stones.

My writing goals are:

1. Always have no less than 6 things (queries, short stories, novels) "out" to publishers or agents at any given time.

2. Sell 1 more professional rate short story so I can move from "affiliate" to "active" in the Horror Writers guild.

3. Land a mass-market paperback contract from Leisure or Kensington Books.

Literotica helps in that it provides a venue in which I can share my stories and get feedback, which helps me to improve my skills. The more practice, the better!

My plan is to write a lot of stories in secret, and then submit 4000 stories on the 30th of December...:D :p

My goal is to be able to write coherent and interesting and entertaining stories. I would also like to see some improvement from as I progress. Eventually I would like to take what I learn and write the "great American novel." So far I have one story posted and several in the works. However looking at the quality of some of the writers here and then looking at my rather pedestrian attempt, I am not feeling hopeful at present. But I do plan on continuing and hopefully can get up to their level and maybe even surpass them. :D

This board is a good place to get that practice and the feedback I have received has been very helpful and I really do appreciate it.
