Ever since civilization has become aware of global warming, have you noticed that the weather isn't what it should be? If you look at history and certain months, like December, in Canada we're supposed to have snow. Yet in many parts now, during this month we don't. Or take October, or any other month. The weather has changed so drastically in my short years, what is it going to be like in another 20?

Will we only have one month of snow? In Ontario, I recall back when I was a kid, we had at least 4 months of snow. This year, we had one month of it. While I am not complaining of the lack of snow :D I am concerned as to what the future has in store for us.

Welll you should be, pussy.

This is the first year in recorded climatology that the arctic ice caps never completely froze over.

The bad thing about warm winters is that the insect population, mosquitoes and fleas to name two pests, doesn't go through that annual depletion either.

So far this year

Our warmest day was in January and our coldest in March.

The weather is a chaotic event.

Yeah, I know. Unfortunuately you can't have your cake and eat it too. I like the little amount of snow that fall shere. Makes driving a hell of a lot easier without the 2-3 foot high snowbanks that pile up. Our entire ecosystem is being thrown to hell in a handbasket with this mess. I guess the science fiction books are going to come true some day and we'll all live in glass domed cities. Or something rather similar to that. It's a shame :( But on the positive, I can enjoy the warmer weather for now :D

Well, something can be done, but involves that the people in industrialized nations go through a thorough lifestyle change. Unlike CFCs and the Ozone problem, greenhouse gasses are an integral part of our daily lives. We all drive vehicles. The vehicles were created in high emission factories and are driven with high emission fossil fuels. That's only one example.

The Ozone layer will have regenerated itself by about 2075 to pre-CFC conditions. Greenhouse gasses are a different story.

Another big problem in global warming is the so called progress. Farming, pasture land, deforestation, and urban or suburban development all goes into the big issue of global warming. Take London, for example. In the center of downtown London on any given day it is an average of 10 degrees warmer than a spot within 10km on the outskirts. Why? Vegetation and porous soils have been replaced with waterproof asphalt and concrete. What cools the air is the evaporation of water from vegetation and soil. Modern development is waterproof and prevents any evaporation. Instead it acts as a collection of incoming solar radiation. In other words, it's a heat sink.

Now Cleveland is trying a model approach to problem. Yes, Cleveland OH is the cutting edge of global warming technology. They're taking porous bricks and making parking lots out of them. A special sort of grass is planted in these bricks and you have a parking lot made out of vegetation. The only thing is that it needs to be mowed.

GW isn't just a corporate or national problem, despite the whole Kyoto Fiasco. (personal opinion, Kyoto is the proverbial finger in the dyke that has already busted). GW has to be dealt with at the base level, at the everyday person. Quit driving to the store when you can walk just as easily. Don't leave the car running when you go to the ATM. Recycle. Check your emission levels on any vehicles that you buy. That's a big start.

And Big Umbrellas in Space

to offset the amount of solar radiation increase back to the beginning of it's most recent warmup period.

We also need to stop releasing our green house gases on Mars and walk to the Mars-Quikie Stop more often (since it too has been recently warming up).

Now science fiction and extrapolation dictate that we grow vertically, with huge, massive buildings gowing ever upward as we strive to maximaize available growing are for food, unless we choose the Soylent Green route.

In the 70s we were told the planet was getting colder and a new ice age was on the way<blizzard of 78> I think that you can pass all the treaties in the world and it wont make a difference. But I do remember the snow being deeper when I was younger.............
