My question for all of us into BDSM is: out in real life, in public, is there some signs or signals I can look for that says, " I am dom" or " I am submissive?"

Serious response...short answer: no
People are complex and most do not provide outward "signs" of private behavior
Even things like a collar like necklace may just as likely be a fashion statement as an indication of submissiveness.
The number of people I have seen post that their public outward presentation dors not "match" their inclination as to PYL/pyl probably runs into the hundreds on this forum alone.

I know this is the BDSM sign, but I wouldn't display it myself...can't say I've ever seen it except on line.

It really depends on the area. There was a club we went to that didn’t have a name and this symbol was on the door. I’ve seen it tattooed on peoples ring finger and seen it on collars. That was in NewYork. We have lived in the Va, Md area for awhile and there are some boutiques where I’ve seen it a few times on pendants for sale. The lady who organizes a local munch has it in a wedding band tattoo on her ring Finger.

I’ve run across it as jewelry and tattoos several times and twice as patches, sewn on a Jean jacket and a backpack full of toys. I’d say less than 1% of practitioners I’ve met have it displayed

Exactly my point. Not exactly a lot of help in identifying possible kinky partners

Just like anything else, if you don't ask, you don't get. Bringing up the topic of sex is all it takes and then - "Are you dominant or submissive?
