This place was a frickin' depot. Munitions were stacked up everywhere. Grenades, rockets, ammunition. There ahd to be some proper explosives. Ah-ha! Composition B. That would work.
Scarlett came back. "I signaled Doc and Toxic. They'll hold off those freaks while we find Diablos. We carried the explosives in satchels and continued into the basement. Almost everyone else inside the building was dead. Some were ripped apart and other blown apart. Going down a twisting concrete staircase we cautiously entered a room with a steel faced door on the far enough illuminated by a dim light overhead. "That must be it" I whispered.
"Right. Get it wired," directed Scarlett. "I'll cover you."
Getting the door wired with Comp-B and det-cord took some time. The charges were tapped around the frame with det-cord shoved into the narrow slit between the door and the frame. I hope this door wasn't too thick. Otherwise we would need a howitzer to blast this thing open.
When it was all rigged I threw boxes to try and reflect the blast back towards the door. With the detonator, I pulled the pin and we hustled up the stairs to escape the blast.
KABOOOOOM!
It was a piercing crack that rumbled through the interior of the building. Dust and dirt fell from the ceiling onto us in a choking veil. Pushing through it we found, it worked. The door was blown open!
RAWEEEEEEEEE RAOOOOOOOO
YEAHHHIIIOOOOOOO
The Crazies' shrieks followed soon afterwards. "Oh, shit" gasped Scarlett. We could hear them running down the concrete paths towards us. We weren't going to make it, going into the bunker and stopping the Crazies behind us. There was only one way out of this, I grabbed Scarlett and pulled us down behind a pile of rubble. We got down before the Crazies reached the basement floor. They came galloping in, shrieking and crying with intensity that it hurt our ears.
Inside their bunker we couldn't see it, but Diablos and his men were stunned by the explosion. When the door was ajar, they stood poised with their weapons aimed. Little did they suspect that what was coming in was.
These frenzied creatures threw themselves at the steel door and with their bare heads ripped it off its hinges. Diablos's eyes were wide as the Crazies surged into the bunker. Shouting something in Portuguese, he aimed his pistol and began blasting away, striking several of them in the chest. They didn't go down.
His men blasted away with automatic weapons. With the power on in their bunker, they could see everything that occurred. Rounds ricocheted off the concrete walls. One man was jumped on by two Crazies. Together they ripped the arms from his sockets and beat him to death with his own limbs. Another man had his head ripped from his shoulders and was used to beat another man to death.
Not phased by the killing, Diablos felt that he could escape. His men, as disposable as they were, kept these Crazies distracted. He tried to go towards the door and escape only to be tackled by a Crazy. Rolling onto his back and tucking in his legs, the criminal shoved the creature away.
Crawling on his hands and knees, Diablos staggered towards the door. Coughing and sputtering, he was set upon by one Crazy that jumped on his back and clapped its bloody hands around Diablos' temples. Pulling back, the Crazy stood screaming as it applied pressure to the criminal's head. Diablos' screamed with eyes wide in horror. Scarlett and I could see it as the man tried to pry the Crazy's fingers off. It was no good. The constant pressure eventually broke bone. Scarlett and I saw in horror as Diablos' head not just pop but explode in a spray of bone, blood, and brains. It was enough to confirm a kill.
The Crazies were distracted long enough for us to start rolling in thermite and white phosphorus grenades before booking a hasty retreat up the stairs. They didn't see it coming until the grenades activated, thermite spewing white hot flames while choking and burning smoke filled the interior. We suspected that explosives, fuel or ammunition was inside the bunker. Perhaps we could cook it off and destroy everything inside. If not, those grenades may be enough to burn them to death. It turned out to be the former.
We were near the stop of the stairs when a terrific concussion knocked both of us off our feet. The floor began to gave way. This place was coming down around us!
Seeing this, Toxic and Doc decided now was the time to get out of Dodge. They repelled down to the ground floor just as Scarlett and I stumbled out nearby. "Hey! Hey!" Toxic waved at us. "Over here!" We came over. "Where's Diablos?"
"Dead" I replied.
"You sure?" asked Doc.
"Oh, yeah. We're sure" nodded Scarlett. "How do we get out of here?"
Our question was answered by a flash of light and the roar of an engine. Around the building barreled a Duece and a Half truck. It rolled right up to us with Jaye smiling out the driver's window, "Going my way?"
