I have a solution that is working fab for me!

Solution: editing stories.

It must get you somehow warmed up, the creative juices flowing, your fingers ready and roaring to go!

(Although I feel sorry for the 2 people I just edited stories for - the list of suggestions was a mile long!)

Anyone else find this?

:D WT

I've always heard that you should get someone to scare you.

Or is that for hiccups?

There's also the one about swallowing a sip of water while holding your nose. That might be for hiccups too.

Ahem... okay now the truth is out, Miss Wishfulthinking! Being pulled up for improper use of commas,I can stand, but a cure for writers block? I'm honoured! As the ever grateful recipent of your thorough editing skills I only hope I've inspired you to get back to your stories.

Seriously, it does work. In my experience, editing can help shift your focus and get distance from your own work. I think it helps to you identify strengths and shortcomings in your own writing.

There is a very slight chance if, you are anything like me, it also constitutes procrastination of the very best kind.

Ps I think Lit stories are intended to get more than creative juices flowing .LOL

Thanks WT:rose:

Yeah. Editing works well. So does giving critiques. The idea is to get your head up out of your own stuff and look around at what other people are doing.

Also, there’s the competitive factor. So many of us started posting here because we came to Lit and read some stories and figured we could do better. I find that still works for me quite well. You read a bad story and know you can do better; you read a good story and you want to try and do as well.

A public thanks to you dr.m for your recent editing/critique of my recent and as yet to be completed story. As you know, I needed lots of help. I am grateful. :rose:

Now that both of my editors have gone public on curing writer's block through editing, I can rest easy knowing I'm inadvertantly contributing at a higher level than I would have thought!:D
