Maybe the U.S. will one day follow Britain's lead.

Michael, Partner to Seal Relationship
Tue Nov 29, 6:39 PM ET

George Michael said Tuesday that he and his longtime partner will make their relationship official under new British legislation offering gays many of the legal protections available to married couples.

"I'm sure Kenny (Goss) and I will be doing the old legal thing, but we won't be doing the whole veil and gown thing," Michael said at a screening of a documentary about his career. "It'll be relatively soon after it comes in, probably early next year."

The legislation creating civil partnerships becomes effective Dec. 21.

The singer said he and Goss, who have been a couple for nearly ten years, planned a "small, private ceremony."

"I'm not very romantic about it to be honest," he said. "I think Kenny probably would be if I let him, but it's just not me."

The Civil Partnerships Bill passed by Parliament last year gives same-sex couples the right to form legally binding partnerships and entitles them to some of the same tax and pension rights married couples have.

"We want to do it, just in case," Michael said. "You never know, I could get hit by a bus and the poor man could have nothing."

I love this. but seriously, did you think i wouldnt?
if we could, we would seriously consider moving, just for this alone.

I'm thinking it might be time to move back home, where they are actually civilised.

I agree that something needs to be done to protect the well being of same sex couples. Like George stated, what if something happened to him? His partner couldn't do anything to protect him, I. E. medical responsibilities, and he would end up with nothing in the worse case scenario. Although, I would hope that George would put something in his will to prevent that.

There's enough red tape as it is for opposite sex couples. Trying to deal with getting history records, medical issues, etc... Same sex couples have next to no shot, as it seems to me, of being able to obtain some of those "rights". If it's a right to an opposites sex couple, shouldn't it be a right to same sex couples? That's all I'm saying.

I believe firmly in the sanctity of marriage, but this is just common sense stuff. If someone loves someone, they should be given the tools needed to protect that person in the daily affairs of the government and legal issues. Ahhh...yes. It's so nice that ALL men are created equal. I'm glad a lot of people are still fighting for that dream.

They mentioned on the radio that Elton John planned the same thing.

I don't understand the "sanctity of marriage" thing. In a world where hetero sluts- of both sexes- marry and divorce within a week- stripping their ex of half their assets in the process- what's left to sanctify?
Marriage has been so abused. And not by the gay population.

*burp*

All i gots to say...

Remember when we were kids... and ALL the girls loved him and all the boys said he was gay.

:nana: HA! WE WERE RIGHT! :nana:

Sincerely,
ElSol

HEY! If you came to England to get married, then I'd claim first dibs on best man-ness by dint of being here already.

I would claim it by dint of being a man, but Abs is twice the man I am.

You're absolutely right there. I guess I was holding on to an old world idea of a Biblical marriage. That would be my idea of sanctity, but you're right. Hetero married couples have a hard enough time keeping marriage sanctified. I still believe that there are some marriages that are shining beacons of the right way to conduct a marriage. They're just getting to be few and far between. Who am I to say what a marriage should and should not be? No one. I'm not. I think it's ultimately up to the two individuals getting married.

And that's what will revive the sanctity of marrriage. :rose:
