Okay you Gen X folks (or anyone, really) what bands, songs, albums, musicians spark nostalgia in your heart? What makes you smile every time you hear it? What was the soundtrack of your early adulthood?

I need music like I need air to breathe. There is almost no genre of music that I don't love. But, for me, it's mostly the music of my college years at Sacramento State University that makes me nostalgic. Sacramento had a fantastic music scene...thanks to the Cattle Club and other smaller venues.

Pearl Jam ~ Ten - in 1991 Pearl Jam was really blowing up with their 10 album. Almost every music collection had this CD. They're out of the mainstream now, and couldn't be happier about it. Excellent band which, even now, still continues to amaze me with their talent and the diversity of their new music.

Nirvana ~ Nevermind - Who didn't have this one in their collection?

Fishbone ~ Truth and Soul - So, maybe I'm biased because 2 of my cousins are in this band, but I'm telling you, they're brilliant! Kind of a funk, rock, ska thing happening. Funky, funky, funky!! Reality of My Surroundings and In Your Face are two of my other favorite albums from them.

Cake ~ Motorcade of Generosity - The boys from Sacramento!! Just a great group of guys...stalked them for years around Sacramento. 'Jolene' and 'Rock 'n Roll Lifestyle' are fantastic songs off this album.

Primus ~ Sailing the Seas of Cheese - Les Claypool is a GOD!!! That man can do things to a 6-string bass that makes me wet!! Genius. Pure. Great band with a curious sense of melody and this album is 45 minutes of pure weirdness that, somehow, just works!! 'Damn Blue Collared Tweekers' gets me everytime. Pork Soda was another excellent album.

Fungo Mungo ~ Humongous - Bay Area band of Mexican skater dudes from Oakland. Extremely nice guys. Now defunct but this album is still soooo damn good! Damian Gallegos is smokin' hot!!! I think one of the guys is not playing for Third Eye Blind.

Red Hot Chili Peppers ~ Mothers Milk, UpLiftMoFoPartyPlan, and Blood Sugar Sex Magick - Excellent albums. ALL OF THEM! Too many great songs to name on these albums. I'm partial to their earlier stuff when they were a little less polished and more raw and....'disorganized' for lack of a better term.

Boys II Men ~ CooleyHighHarmony - Talent up the Wazoo. Nuff said. LOVE this album.

Metallica ~ The Black Album - I'm disappointed that they kinda suck now, but this album and And Justice for All are my two favorites. Just listened to The Black Album yesterday. Used to be a great band.

"Living Colour" ~ Vivid - This album yielded the popular song 'Cult of Personality'. Great song, but the entire album was very, very good! Talented band. Corey Glover has an amazing voice!

Garth Brooks ~ Ropin' the Wind - Have and love all of Garth's albums. But this one was out my freshman year in college. I wore OUT this CD playing 'Rodeo', 'Shameless', and 'Papa Loved Mama'.

Mi Tierra ~ Gloria Estefan - The entire album is in Spanish. I played this album to DEATH when it first came out. Never been a big fan of her english language albums. But I adore her Spanish albums. Something is always lost in the translation to english. Great album.

God, there are sooo many more from this time that I'm hoping others will bring up.

i must've hung out with a different group of people than you did.

LOL. I'm betting so. I hung out with a bunch of misfits. Story of my life.

Yeah, wow..some great albums in there.

Megadeth - Peace Sells...etc.; first thrash album I ever bought, moving away from stealing my brothers' LP's

Anthrax - Among the Living: air guitar'd to this before picking up the real thing.

Metallica - Master of Puppets: I mean, C'mon.

RUSH - Moving Pictures: 'Tom Saywer' always reminds me of my youth

Foreigner - 4 : parents gone, and the oldest brother brings his stereo downstairs--this is what he blasts; 'JukeBox Hero'...

Love the Primus reference, though personally Frizzle Fry is what brings back the memories here. Just seeing your list brings up memories (Fishbone - 'Truth and Soul' and 'The Reality of My Surroundings'

OMG...I forgot Fizzle Fry!!! I  you. ;)

Metallica - Ride the Lightning, And justice for all & the Black Album:
Got some hardcore play time on my stereo. And I have some real fine memories of various parties and concerts.

RATM:
One of the other bands that I really loved back then.

Extreme - Pornograffity, Three Sides to Every Story.
What can I say, I am a sucker for Nuno Bettencourts guitar work. And who, from my generation have not made out to "More Than Words"

RHTP - Blood sugar sex magik:
This album became the ultimate party album when I went out with my friends.

Queen - It's a kind of Magic:
There is just something about Freddie Mercury and crew. And to this day, there are many Queen songs that remain my all time favorites.

Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast, Seventh son.
It's Iron Maiden, nuff said! I still thoroughly enjoy singing along, though badly, with "Run to the Hills"

Clawfinger - Deaf Dumb Blind:
Best concert I have ever been to. It was a swift kick in the ass. In a very good way.

Kashmir - Travelogue
One of the bands that changed rock in Denmark in the early 90's. Their first album is still the best out of them all.

I am sure I have forgotten some. But these came to mind right off the bat.

Awww. :cathappy:

Did you know I can play that song too?

This seems incomplete with out mentioning G n' R's "Appetite for Destruction." I'll throw in Tesla's "Mechanical Resonance" which I thought totally kicked as when I first heard it.

Let's hear yours, Susie!
The Cure. Nirvana. Screeching Weasel. Tori Amos. Ani DiFranco. Indigo Girls. Propagandhi. U2. The Clash. Frank Zappa. The Pixies.

Nirvana, STP, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Godsmack, Alanis Morisette, Gin Blossoms, Counting Crows, Sheryl Crow, Rage Against the Machine...

God, this could be a long list.

Oh Jeez...Faith No More - "The Real Thing," especially 'Epic'...may as well be cruising down the hallways of High School when I hear that one.

Do you guys realize that ours is the last generation to have existed in a world where there was no internet?

Just an interesting thought.

Shit, also:

Radiohead, REM, GnR.

OMG! Losing My Religion brings back memories. I can almost feel the pool cue in my hands and see my friend's face, mouthing all the words.

Speaking of Faith No More, there was always Mr. Bungle. I still listen to Girls of Porn although, I'm not really sure when it came out. It just always seemed to be there.

The Singles Soundtrack.

Pearl Jam's Ten

Tori Amos's Little Earthquakes

Tool's Undertow. One of my top ten favorite albums ever, although it has a lot of sentimental value, as does Alice in Chains from this time.

Live. I think it was Mental Jewelry that was out about this time, but it could have been Throwing Copper. They and Tool are the two bands that I knew of in high school that I've grown with since, and I love them more now then I did when I was a kid.

Concrete Blonde--Pump up the Volume, baby.

I don't know, music was always in the background, always. Like a good friend you're so close to you can't remember how you first met. That's how I am about music, and I couldn't even begin to scratch the surface in a post like this.

Slayer
Metallica
SOD
MOD
tool
Dayglo abortions
Sex Pistols/ Sid Vicious
Dead Milkmen
AIC
RHCP
This could go on for days...

Shit. Dead Milkmen. Dead Kennedys. Good laughs and good times.

It just never ends, really.
