Hi all,

I've recently started writing and posting stories on this FANTASTIC site.

Here's the thing.

I'm a straight guy, but writing erotic literature for gay men really appeals to me. Firstly, it'd be a a bit of a challenge as a writer. Secondly, it'd be an interesting exercise mentally and emotionally, forcing myself to "think outside the box" as it were. I think it'd be fun and I'm going to get started tonight.

I havent read too much gay erotica (for obvious reasons) and I'm interested to know what kind of things gay men like reading about, what kind of fantasies appeal to you guys? Importantly, what kind of cliches should I avoid?

the worst cliche is being a straight guy who has sex with men.

:)

Ok, I'll cross that plot idea off the list.

I had an plot idea involving hairy fun in a Turkish hamamm, I guess that's also a bit of a cliche?

Seriously, what turns you on?

Well, they say write what you know. Now I can see why that would be difficult since you aren't having the mansex, but the next best thing would be to read a lot of that kind of stories.

just read some stuff and then think about what you read and use your brain to fill in the holes. also, as a guy who writes lesbian stories with some moderate success, i suggest you leave somethings to the readers imagination and let them fill in the blanks.

also, seriously, if you don't know what it feels like to be anally penetrated go find a dildo and do it yourself at the very least so you can at least get some idea what's it like.

i'd say watch gay porn, but some of it really sucks. some people swear by bel ami( i think i spelt that write), but i find the lack of body hair turns me off, but i'm weird like that. anyway, it can at least give you an idea about the mechanics of it all if it is sometimes a bit exaggerated.

you know, like all porn.

I think the idea of exotic locales is a good one.

This might be heresy but I'd avoid writing about gay guys always trying to get straight boys like you into bed.

What I'd really like to see more of in gay lit are stories about male-male bonding and love, aspects that extend far beyond the purely physical although the physical part is good too.

From your perspective this might be easier. Write about deep friendships you have with other males and how you felt emotionally about these friendships. Include a little touching, hugging and some occasional grab-assing and your readers' imaginations can run wild.

Oh and not all gay workmates invite you to a gay orgy just because:"I noticed you were looking at me..Wanna have a party with Jack and Ronald?Boys only.."
Please...
Like that happens every day..

Hmm..I like somewhat hairy guys, with a good body.
Well, fitness doesn't mean anything to me when the guy is cute and/or handsome though..

And it annoys me that writers usually start putting more and more gay men in the story..
Just because someone is gay it doesn't mean that his brother, grandfather, nephew, colleague are gay he made his father realise he has homosexual urges too..
Neither does it mean that his grandmother will offer him sex advice on using lubricant..*pukes*...

Just avoid the 'Everyone is gay or will turn gay eventually' cliche..I hate it..
