Gardening: Plants, Flowers, Veggies, Trees and All Things Green

Flowers looking great. Took some red hot pokers, hostas, coneflower, and milk weed bulbs from work we were throwing out. Got some planning and planting to do

First pickings of the year. Potatoes are going nicely, tomatoes are thickening up. The romas are beefy this year. Two watermelons on the vines, grapes are plump but green. Do have a pumpkin plant growing in the woods from one we threw out last fall.

There’s something about bright plants at the golden hour that just brings out the orange in them.

Here is today’s batch of daylilies

The milkweed is blooming right now. The fragrance is almost intoxicating. And the bees love the pollen… (sorry L2, and anyone else who is allergic to bee stings. These guys are very friendly and are not really stingers at all…)

This milkweed is the sweetest most intoxicating smell! It smells incredible, which is why we don’t remove it from our gardens and let the wildflowers move in.

Caught this nice moment outside this morning by our back patio.

Thought the cool music was a good backdrop too…

I've got boxes of flowers seeds and bulbs to plant we were throwing away at work. Just need time to plant when not no freaking hot. Cone flowers, hosta, milkweed, red hot pokers, and another I can't remember.

Love that!

We usually cultivate seeds from veggies and flowers, but last year we broke down and bought a whole new batch after we had a couple of years straight of bad pumpkins.

But we take our flowers every fall, deadhead, marigolds, and other flowers and reseed them for the following year.

Books are looking good. I like all the colors. Variety of color is always great in garden beds.

flower beds:

Black eyed Susans. They’re early ones which are more like Echiibekkia and cone flower in June and early July.

Then there are middle ones that come out now in mid July. ⬇️

And in a few weeks, we get a different type that come out in late August.

Black eyed Susan and ferns in the foreground. Then coneflower, then pasta, and then daylilies.

Same scene, just a little bit further down the flower bed. Hostas and daylily.

Looking the other direction from the Black eyed Susan, towards other coneflower.

Congratulations on winning first place!! All the flowers look great.
Many thanks csg.

We also took first place for best beets and also largest ornamental gourd.

And a bunch of second and third place ribbons too. It was a nice year.
