Garden District v. French Quarter

I may be going to New Orleans later this month (my one vacation of the year!) and I haven't been there since the 1984 World's Fair. I've been looking at bed & breakfasts on-line, and there's some great choices.

Now the question - do I stay in The Garden District or the French Quarter?

I could not tell you. The quarter sounds great though. Right in the middle of everything.
