I started watching just to see an actor playing a character just before he was beheaded.
Now I watch for the dwarf. He didn't die in the red wedding, so all is well
hahahahahaha Love that.
Judging by some interviews I've read with GRR Martin, he's doing what many of us say or advise -- he's writing the kind of thing he would want to read and he doesn't want to (always, at least) read about the good guys overcoming the odds and vanquishing the bad guys.
If I wanted to read about noble families double dealing, torturing and murdering each other in an endless chase for power I'll read about the War of The Roses or Renaissance Italy.
I read fantasy because I want, well, fantasy.
I read them all from the library and at some point will get the series. I liked it a lot but don't expect it to follow the usual fantasy paths -- although if you've seen the TV series, you probably already know that.
