I've seen the idea of Trump as Speaker floated before -- but only for the purpose of putting him in the presidential line of succession. That does not apply, if he resigns after one day. And Trump, despite having been president, really does not understand enough about how Congress works to "make a few structural reforms to the institution."

You act as though they want to do things because it makes logical sense.

Well, if the Pubs take the House in the midterms, we will be hearing about this idea again. Nothing will come of it, but we will hear of it.

We hear about grievances every day.

Nothing new.

What exactly would be the point of all that?

no doubt there are people who already know and plan for these changes, should it occur that the repubs take the house in the mid-terms. i don't doubt they'll be 'reforms' that skew the power even further to the right, and to benefit any chances of a repub president in '24

do i think t will take the position? somehow i don't believe it would assuage his monstrous ego... president or nothing and fuck the rest of the gop.

to install t as speaker–if only for a day–is sending a message to t's rabid base that the gop is behind t or, at least, appearing to be in order to get their political support should t not be around to run

Well, no, Trump can't be speaker unless he first runs for and wins a House seat. No one can think he'd have the energy to do that.

i'm sure i read that the majority party can choose whoever they like as a speaker, someone who even has no political links or placings. i'll see if i can find that.

Yes, do, please. Because I think it's just typical Trumper stupid disinformation.

here:
Although the House speaker is traditionally chosen from among the representatives elected to the legislative chamber, this is not technically required, according to the Constitution. As a result, some right-wing allies of Trump have suggested that the former president should be nominated and elected by GOP House members, should they succeed in ousting the Democrats from power.

Steve Bannon, a right-wing strategist who previously served as a senior adviser to Trump, put forward the idea during a speech to Boston Republicans last February. "We totally get rid of Nancy Pelosi, and the first act of President Trump as speaker [of the House] will be to impeach Joe Biden for his illegitimate activities of stealing the presidency," the Boston Herald reported.

and here:
Historically, the speaker of the House has been a member of Congress, but the majority party can pick whoever they want.

So, theoretically, Republicans could choose to put Trump in the speaker's chair by a majority vote.

Wrong again. But nothing new there. Like the Trumpsters here...you write without checking facts

OK, hotshot, what are your facts here? The notion is absolutely ridiculous that you can be Speaker of the House without being an eligible member of the House. Put up or shut up.

Of course, when I want to know what does and doesn't pass muster with respect to our Constitution, the first name I always think of is Matt Gaetz!

"Section Two further provides that the House of Representatives may choose its Speaker and its other officers. Though the Constitution does not mandate it, every Speaker has been a member of the House of Representatives."

The Constitution does not require the speaker to be an incumbent member of the House of Representatives, although every speaker thus far has been.

By then Trump will have a warrant or three, and if he shows up for the job, the Sergeant At Arms can escort him out.

No one is ever going to be made Speaker of the House who isn't a current elected member of the House. It's just silly to think otherwise. I'm certainly not going to be goaded into worrying about that happening--just like all the other craziness the board Trumpettes come up with to own "librals."

Does some dumbfuck still think PJ blablablah is media?

Hell, they could put Trump on the Supreme Court too. The Constitution doesn't say anything about who can be a justice.

A thing to point out, though, is that just because all this stuff is technically allowed doesn't mean it would make a lot of political sense. Trump winding up as president in 2023 through this sort of maneuver after running and losing in 2020 is the sort of thing you do when you're not terribly concerned about ever having to face the voters again. Which may be part of the plan, who knows.
