In the UK this is known as 'Green Burial'. It is becoming more popular and is usually a cooperation between the local Parish or District Council and organisations such as the Woodland Trust or Men of the Trees. The community can bury their dead and then have more woodland to enjoy. Once the site is full it is just part of a forest with a discreet plaque.
Cardboard Coffins look just like ordinary coffins except the finish is slightly fake-looking. They compare with coffins that are actually cremated. Once buried they will decompose in a couple of years - sooner than the body.
Selection of the land is the most difficult thing. Decomposing corpses can pollute watertables. That is true for all inhumations, not just 'green' ones.
