This was too fucking funny.

Found on the website, you guessed it, www.fuckthesouth.com.

Fuck the South. Fuck 'em. We should have let them go when they wanted to leave. But no, we had to kill half a million people so they'd stay part of our special Union. Fighting for the right to keep slaves - yeah, those are states we want to keep.

And now what do we get? We're the fucking Arrogant Northeast Liberal Elite? How about this for arrogant: the South is the Real America? The Authentic America. Really?

Cause we fucking founded this country, assholes. Those Founding Fathers you keep going on and on about? All that bullshit about what you think they meant by the Second Amendment giving you the right to keep your assault weapons in the glove compartment because you didn't bother to read the first half of the fucking sentence? Who do you think those wig-wearing lacy-shirt sporting revolutionaries were? They were fucking blue-staters, dickhead. Boston? Philadelphia? New York? Hello? Think there might be a reason all the fucking monuments are up here in our backyard?

No, No. Get the fuck out. We're not letting you visit the Liberty Bell and fucking Plymouth Rock anymore until you get over your real American selves and start respecting those other nine amendments. Who do you think those fucking stripes on the flag are for? Nine are for fucking blue states. And it would be 10 if those Vermonters had gotten their fucking Subarus together and broken off from New York a little earlier. Get it? We started this shit, so don't get all uppity about how real you are you Johnny-come-lately "Oooooh I've been a state for almost a hundred years" dickheads. Fuck off.

Arrogant? You wanna talk about us Northeasterners being fucking arrogant? What's more American than arrogance? Hmmm? Maybe horsies? I don't think so. Arrogance is the fucking cornerstone of what it means to be American. And I wouldn't be so fucking arrogant if I wasn't paying for your fucking bridges, bitch.

All those Federal taxes you love to hate? It all comes from us and goes to you, so shut up and enjoy your fucking Tennessee Valley Authority electricity and your fancy highways that we paid for. And the next time Florida gets hit by a hurricane you can come crying to us if you want to, but you're the ones who built on a fucking swamp. "Let the Spanish keep it, it’s a shithole," we said, but you had to have your fucking orange juice.

The next dickwad who says, "It’s your money, not the government's money" is gonna get their ass kicked. Nine of the ten states that get the most federal fucking dollars and pay the least... can you guess? Go on, guess. That’s right, motherfucker, they're red states. And eight of the ten states that receive the least and pay the most? It’s too easy, asshole, they’re blue states. It’s not your money, assholes, it’s fucking our money. What was that Real American Value you were spouting a minute ago? Self reliance? Try this for self reliance: buy your own fucking stop signs, assholes.

Let’s talk about those values for a fucking minute. You and your Southern values can bite my ass because the blue states got the values over you fucking Real Americans every day of the goddamn week. Which state do you think has the lowest divorce rate you marriage-hyping dickwads? Well? Can you guess? It’s fucking Massachusetts, the fucking center of the gay marriage universe. Yes, that’s right, the state you love to tie around the neck of anyone to the left of Strom Thurmond has the lowest divorce rate in the fucking nation. Think that’s just some aberration? How about this: 9 of the 10 lowest divorce rates are fucking blue states, asshole, and most are in the Northeast, where our values suck so bad. And where are the highest divorce rates? Care to fucking guess? 10 of the top 10 are fucking red-ass we're-so-fucking-moral states. And while Nevada is the worst, the Bible Belt is doing its fucking part.

But two guys making out is going to fucking ruin marriage for you? Yeah? Seems like you're ruining it pretty well on your own, you little bastards. Oh, but that's ok because you go to church, right? I mean you do, right? Cause we fucking get to hear about it every goddamn year at election time. Yes, we're fascinated by how you get up every Sunday morning and sing, and then you're fucking towers of moral superiority. Yeah, that's a workable formula. Maybe us fucking Northerners don't talk about religion as much as you because we're not so busy sinning, hmmm? Ever think of that, you self-righteous assholes? No, you're too busy erecting giant stone tablets of the Ten Commandments in buildings paid for by the fucking Northeast Liberal Elite. And who has the highest murder rates in the nation? It ain't us up here in the North, assholes.

Well this gravy train is fucking over. Take your liberal-bashing, federal-tax-leaching, confederate-flag-waving, holier-than-thou, hypocritical bullshit and shove it up your ass.

And no, you can't have your fucking convention in New York next time. Fuck off.

:D

In the actual blog, there are about fourteen links to various sources.

Divorce Magazine: US Divorce Statisticshere

The other half of the sentence about the militia

Federal Tax Flow stats from the GAO here

and whatnot. The situation was worse actually when the Civil War broke out, both for economic dependence of the South on the North and for divorce rates. All through the war the South's bleak economy went downhill for a lack of market for cotton, due to the blockade. After the war, fuggidaboudit, man, the South languished for almost a hundred years in a state of near economic slavery to Northern banks and commerce. And they were still hooting "the South gon' do it agin!" just as though anyone in their right mind would have thought it a good idea. Another century of economic serfdom? Do it again?

But this guy, whooee, he's a uniter, not a divider, isn't he?

good topic. from my perspective, it's all too true.

Yep, posted my thoughts on it there, so I'm not going to go into it again.

All I will say this time is that it's time people realized how bigoted they really are when they blame the ills of the whole country on one specific region. It's convenient, sure, but no truer than anything coming out of Bush's mouth lately.

Ignorance is everywhere - and judging from the posted blog/piece/whatever, it's even more rampant elsewhere than in the south.

cloudy, i agree with you re: bigotry being universal.

i live in the south, though, and sad as it is to say, that article describes so many people surrounding me to a T. i'll never figure out how those most likely to be hurt by bush's economic and foreign policies came to decide to worship him like the messiah, but they did. and do. i think the article makes a valid point, even if it does so in a rather pointed way.

Sure it does, but move anywhere else in the country that's not a big metropolitan area, replace the southern accent with whatever the locals use, and the people are exactly the same.

My family is from the south.....always has been. Great-greats fought in the civil war, on the confederate side, and I'm damned tired of being portrayed as an ignorant hick by people talking out of their asses.

yeah, i think in that thread i've got a post about a friend of mine, a woman of color, who left the south and moved to "progressive" austin. (a city that i love.) her first observation was that in the south people dealt with the issue of racism even if they did not always get it right, and that in austin, they just pretended like it was not an issue.

i, on the other hand, am an ignorant hick ;)

I saw that post, and I'd have to agree with her.

I sorta doubt your ignorance. :)

Too many people equate a southern accent with backwardness. That may have been true a long time ago, but times have changed. And, too many people forget that racism is not just a black/white issue. I've actually run into quite a few people here at Lit that wouldn't think of themselves as bigots at all, but will put down other races - doesn't make them a bigot as long as they're not talking about African-Americans, right? ;)

*nods* agreed. gotta scoot. see you in the threads. . . .

I don't, as you know, subscribe to this fellow's (fuckthesouth's) ideas. In the first place, the electoral face of a state (or district, in Maine) is just a majority phenomenon. Each red area contains a large proportion of voters for the other side, and also conversely in the blue areas. We are, in fact, all purple, like a bruise.

The unity of the two major candidates on the War and on the Police State meant that the only real issues left between them, besides their own personalities, were gays, guns, god, and abortion.

Silly basis for an election, but the powers in charge of both parties would allow no antiwar or pro-Constitution candidates.

Those guys are the enemy.

I know you don't, cant, and please forgive me if I sounded like I was lumping you in there.

Recently there's been a rash of south-bashing, and I'm sick of it, that's all.

All bashing is too easy, cloudy. Civility is moribund. I weep for it, but I have little myself.

Anyone who would bash you, however, would have earned my enmity thereby.

Still, I've often thought about 'what if the South had been let go'?

Anyone care to speculate?

I can picture that Confederated country finally abolishing slavery after every other western country. I have the feeling it would have been sort of 'third world' (maybe a bit like Brazil), kinda like happened after the Czechs and Slovaks split.

Of course slavery wasn't the issue. But consider the effects of survival of the plantation system for another 50-100 years. King Cotton, and all that. It would be a 'raw materials' producing place like Colombia. Hey maybe a great nearby source of drugs.

There is a lot of cheap labor to be exploited, even to this day. As a separate country, I can imagine poor southerners, like the Mexicans today, trying to sneak into the "Union" to make some
money.

This is all imaginings and the individual southerner is many times a fine, even tolerant person.

Okay, sure, let's go with that......

So, that means that the northern half would starve, right? After all, industrialization isn't everything. Y'all would eventually have to eat.

Ever been to the south Pure?

People in the South are no different than the people in any other part of the country. To think any different shows ignorance and bigotry.

There is just as much prejudice in Manhattan as there is in Raleigh, NC. There are just as many rednecks in Cleveland, OH as there are in Cleveland, GA.

During a week in Tupelo, MS, I saw more interracial couples dating than I ever saw durning a week in Ft. Lee, NJ.

The Red counties are everywhere and the ignorance is everywhere.

Before you look down your nose at the South, take a good look around your neighborhood.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Are you as tired of this shit as I am?

I'm conflicted over the South right now, cd. Setting aside motive, I finally understand the appeal of seceding from the union.

What they don't realize, is that by buying into the southern=ignorant stereotype, they're showing their bigotry just as clearly to me as Wallace did his.

But, no, they're not bigoted, right? They're just simply more intelligent....and all because they don't live here.

Somehow, I don't see the correlation. Since when did your distance from the equator at the time of your birth or now, for that matter, have anything to do with intelligence?

People, get over it. Here's a newsflash: it doesn't matter where you live, ignorance is everywhere, as is intelligence. Place the blame where it lies, and not where it's convenient - which means the whole damn country - north, south, east and west, got it?
