Long live patriotism

In the US, saying Fuck Patriotism is like saying Fuck God. (That's a different thread, and one day I will do it.) It’s the big no-no: Love your country or leave it, dammit!

I am NOT patriotic. There, I said it.

I do not have a great love for the USA; I feel no devotion to the USA. I like living here, actually I like it very much. And to repay my country, I contribute my taxes. I donate to charities. I fulfill other civic duties as well. This is almost an even-Steven situation. (But really, I am getting ripped off. )

Our hand in raping the world of natural resources for profits makes me sick. And that’s not just Bush; Clinton was only marginally better. I am not proud of this, of strong-arming countries into privatizing their water supplies, their natural resources. That our federal government along with the World bank forces these things, so our corporations can make more money.

Fuck patriotism, and the horse that rode it in.

When did we become a nation in which our citizens must pledge devotion to the land and The State? And that if one doesn’t, he’ll be yelled at, ridiculed, and probably much worse?

I realize now that the hubris of un-relenting patriotism is nothing more than a way for the bastards who run this country to keep us all in check and prevent us from asking too many questions.

Fuck Patriotism.

If either is to continue, we real patriots are going to have to learn to accept the fact that a mix of capitalism and socialism is not just the proper way to run a country - it's the only way any civilized Democratic nation currently functions. The communists lay in the trash heap of history, but the laissez-faire capitalist fanatics and their utopianistic fantasies continue to persist, even though laissez-faire capitalism has never existed outside of pure anarchy.

I have great love for my country, but not for the mindset that we've been swindled into believing that resources are infinite and there is no conservation of mass - Earth is not one giant endless oil ATM that just pops out crude when we ask for it. We're going to fucking run out, either that or we're going to melt the ice caps and glaciers and flood our cities out... or we are going to die from excessive pollution. Those are the facts, and to fuck all with the idiots who ram their heads into the ground like ostriches saying it isn't happening.

I love patriotism. I do not see patriotism as invading countries that aren't threatening America (Iraq), while ignoring others that are (Iran, North Korea).

A real patriot despises multi national corporations that send our jobs overseas and drown America in import deficits while giving hostile regimes control of our currency and national debt.

A real patriot does not say we should impoverish the world for our enrichment; likewise, a real patriot doesn't say we should put our own citizens out of work and force our own families to play career musical chairs in order to make other nations' poor people rich. Real patriots take care of their own country before others.

A real patriot would never willingly undermine America's way of life by allowing, much less encouraging free trade, with undemocratic regimes and sweatshop nation.

A real GOD FEARING patriot would never buy anything from China if they could help it, or any other nation that forces atheism, forces abortions (see the word "FORCED" there? Thank you), and denies DEMOCRACY, to its citizens.

A REAL patriot would secure our borders against uncontrolled immigration if they REALLY cared about preventing Al Qaeda from sneaking into America with a nuke.

A real patriot doesn't argue for STATE OWNERSHIP of people (the Draft).

A REAL patriot would oppose the surveillance state.

I love my country, I seek to keep my Government in check, and to absolute hell with the corporate and police state.
