It's a cooler then normal weather here. (Which I am not complaining about!) Low 70s and kind of overcast as we have a chance of rain here. Sitting on the porch, I can see the hills and feel the breezes and hear the rustle of the leaves. Got a good book to read as I sit here. This is the kind of day I love to read.
So when you guys don't have anything going on and are just taking it easy, what do you like to do?
I have always been a big reader. I love all kinds of books. Action, Adventure, Mystery, some Sci-Fi, Court room stuff, and some non fiction things.

So, gonna sit back here, read my book and drink some sweet tea.

I'm up for some friendly chat. I am supposed to be finishing a project for a genealogy group I am in today, but feel not a bit like doing it.

Been traipsing all over lit today for the first time in a forever.

It's cold here today Spenser. We had straight line winds of over 70 mph two nights ago, and I am waiting on the tree service guys to come, get all the trees we lost. So sad. One of them was over 100 years old, and my boys loved playing in it...darn it.

When I am relaxing, I like to hit the chaise on the deck, and break out a book or two that I've read a lot, but like old friends, I like to see them again and again.

New books are for the bathtub and the beach!

Nice place... :rose:

Hi, Kendra...I'll join you if you don't mind...it IS a wonderful porch here with the rockers and all and the sweet tea is delish.

It's chilly where I live too...in the mid-50's. So sitting on the porch here in the warmth and sun is sooo inviting. I brought a couple books...some current reading and a new cookbook to leaf through. I buy so many and read them but hardly ever cook from them anymore! I just love reading about good food almost as much as I love reading about good sex! Both are quite....hmmm....yummy! :D

Poppy,

I love going through cook books too. I am lucky to have had a lot of access to books through my old job.

Not much for sweet tea, but I'll have a glass of juice, maybe some lemonade and enjoy the sunshine with you. It's in the 50's here too today and I feel so cold. Need some sunshine to warm me up.

Heading south the end of the month, and then WAY south in a month. Can't wait, lots of fun with friends both places. Trip number two is just friends (all women)...in the Caribbean. :p Good friends, they take care of you when you need it most, and know just what to do.

God love em.

MMMMmmmm...southern vacations sound wonderful! And 2 no less in one summer...lol. I'm not much of a traveller as I've been a multi-species household manager much of my adult life and it costs a lot to have them cared for if one travels much. So one vacation every few years sounds like A LOT to me let alone 2 in one year! :)

I have lotsa books too...was a bookseller/dept. manager for a year+...and boy, it sure paid off in that sense. IF anyone here LOVES BOOKS go work in a bookstore...you get a LOT of freebies at some...from publisher reps and such. No complaints about it! You also get to read and offer feedback on pre-publications which is fun...plus meet some of your favorite authors. The work is not that hard as a bookseller and they usually have all kinds of varying schedule options.

Nice to meet you, Kendra! How did you manage to get access to lotsa books? It's just so wonderful to be "shelving" in your favorite department and learning all the new stuff that's on the market! I miss that job but there's no way to make a living on it...unless you work elsewhere at the same time.

Thanks Kendra. Wow - 70 mph winds? Where the heck are you? The Mid West? Sorry about the loss of the trees. That is sad. Glad none of them fell on the house tho. That is the main thing. Yea I have rather large collection of books. Over 100 and many of them are "old friends" that I got back and re-read them, time and time again. Sometime you will have to share with me some of your books that you like to read. I like Robert B Parker - Spenser books... hence the name... I also like Grishom, Steve Martini, Sue Grafton, Janet Evanavich, just to name a few...
Thanks for dropping in and come back anytime.

Hmmmm I like the way you THINK! Welcome back Poppy! So what good books are you reading right now? What sex books have you read that were good?

Poppy,

Yes, southern vacations are wonderful. I'm fortunate to be taking a couple, very southern (out of the country) vacations this year.

I had access to a lot of books because...I worked in a library. :D

I hope you all enjoy your day...Spenser, thank you ... nice place, I'll pop in from time to time to check it, and you, all out.

Good morning! Perfect chilly morning.... and perfect cup of coffee.
It's going to be a busy day - but I think that I'll just take these few minutes to relax and enjoy the moment. :)

Hey sweetheart. Yea it is a nice day. Overcast and cool... I have always like cool mornings and warm days. Reminds me of the Smokey Mountians. In the Summer, it would be cool in the AM like the 50s and then during the day the upper 70s or low 80s. I love those cool crisp mornings. Hot cinnamon and orange tea for me this morning. Ahhhhhhhh

I hear the sound of lawnmowers.... lol they have started early this morning.
Oh well.... Another sound of the summer. Hope you have a good weekend AB.
Hugs and kisses.

I would love to be back in that business! The problem is...I'm not so cut out for starting inot retail at this time in my life. It's a dreadfully demanding career even if you love it...at least I think so. I came from non-profit/health & welfare and because of the high level of burnout and the hoops ya hafta jump through to get really a really decent position, they DO tend to take care of you a bit...not so in retail. But anyhoo...I still love books and got lots and lots.

Spenser...you know, it's funny...I haven't read a lot of sex books. I have read Anais Nin stuff - what woman of the world hasn't of my generation and some of the Womens' Erotica (Short story collections), things like The Art of Kissing (1 and 2) - sweet little books I love to read parts of again and again...lol, some of Anne Rice's erotic writings...but the best stuff I've read has been online! I have wanted to read Jenna J's book on How to Be a Porn Star...just cause it looks fun....but I haven't. How about you? You got some favs? :D

I am mostly a non-fiction reader...true crime, some poli-sci, cooking, psych, alternative spirituality type stuff...but I've read all of Ann Rice's Vampire Chronicles and the spin-offs, Harry Potter and I have so many books here, I'd not finish them if I lived to be 100! I love photography books (like pics of dogs, the Irish in America, aging people...lol) coffee table books like "Hippie".

Some recent favorites: Freakonomics, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, On Bullshit, The Book of Flying, A Treasury of Royal Scandals and I am currently reading God's Debris (AThought Experiment) by Scott Adams...interesting little book!

Anyone else reading good stuff?

Ah, yes...do you mean, the librarian in the 'librarian gear' of glasses, pencil in a bun at the back of her head, severe clothes on the outside, and garters and stockings below...Just waiting for someone to come find out all about her secrets? ;)

Books...I like biography's and books on history. I think it may be my curiosity of other people that drives me to such things.

My favorite book of all time is Jane Eyre, however. I read that book once a year. Another book I quite liked is, Wish you Well, by David Baldacci.

I am, in my reading, as I am in my taste in music, all over the place, and can go from something silly like the Miss Julia series by Ann B. Ross....to something more real and detailed like 1776. I basically like it all...EXCEPT fantasy or sci-fi. Not my cup of tea.

right now, I am reading EINSTEIN, His Life and the Universe, by Walter Isaacson.

Tomorrow promises to be sunny and warm. Time for the swimsuit, the chaise and that book...:D

Spenser, thank you for the welcome, and a great place to kick back...and relax! :rose:

Well to be honest, I haven't ready any books on sex. Like you, I have read erotica, and again, that has been mainly on line. I read a few non-fictions, but manily I am into the fictional stuff. When I was a kid, were I lived was very very hot in the summer and we didn't have AC. (Try falling asleep at night and your sweat is dripping off you and your bed is soaked from it and there are no breezes at all.) During the day, I went to the library because they had AC. I went there and drew (was going to be a cartoonist) but ended up looking at magazines and then started to read books. Some I checked out but most of the time, I would stay there all day and just read. Fiction was a great escape tool for me. Guess that is why I still read so many of them. So, sorry I am not much of a deep thinker in the books I read. I just love to read the books that I do. They are the TV of the mind for me.
Thanks for sharing tho. I can not tell you how many times I have thought about starting my own bookstore. Problem is where I live there are no major chain stores. Walmart sells books, but there is no true real bookstore. But with my luck, I open one up, a Barnes and Noble or Books a Million will come into town.
:D

I love history books as well. I have a huge collection of Fictional History by Michner. I loved to read his stuff. I have been wanting to read 1776 as well as the Einstein book. Maybe I will get around to that this summer. Right now I am reading the new one by John Grishom - Innocent Man. It is different from anything he has done before. I also picked up a bunch of books on sale at a book store. Steve Martini, David Baldacci, Robert B. Parker, Michael Connelly, Tom Green, and a few others.
Well ladies thanks again for stopping by and please feel free to do so anytime.

Looks like a slow week for the front porch. By the way, all of you.... home repair, remodling, landscaping people, I have a new home and I am looking at building a deck on the back and a front porch, plus thinking of making a circular drive in the huge acre front yard and anyone have any ideas, suggestions, software ideas?
I am open to any and all suggestions.

Hey to all and hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend.
Not coming much since AC broke down and guess what??? No repair men till Tuesday! YEA

I have not been on much as I am kind of overwhelmed with personal things going on. In the past couple of months I have had 3 people close to me die and I have also had some friends find out they have cancer. I am being faced with just how precious life is and how short it is. I will not be on much over the next few weeks.
Thanks for understanding.

As I sit here, I wonder just what is going on with life. I know there are no answers to the questions that are running through my head. I mean I know not everyone will live to be 80 or 90. Some of us just have bad bodies. Kind of like a lemon of a car. Most of it comes from bad genes. Some of us are more prone to have cancer, diabeties, bad hearts, or other problems. Some of us were told we would never live past a certain age and have lived well past that point and surprised them all.
Some of us make bad choices in life and know that we should not do something that we are doing. Be it exposing ourselves to possible dangers. And I am not talking about just sexual things. But smoking, drinking, drugs, speeding to fast, taking too many risks one to many, and so we are like sticking our tongues out at death and challenging it.
And then there are others that just don't make sense. A woman or a man who is depressed and ends their life along with others. Children are the saddest stories to hear about. It just breaks my heart.
In the past 3 years I have had many friends die. Some from heart issues, cancer, car wreaks, and drownings. No matter how someone goes, it doesn't make the pain any less or the empty hole go away. Oh I know... in time... all wounds are healed. But it still hurts none the less.
Someone told me, well, that happens at our age. Yea as you get older, you start losing friends as we get up there. Only problem is, all the ones that have died in the last few years have all been younger then me. That is scary because it brings back the fact, you just don't last forever. Well, you do but not here.
The sad thing is seeing all the families that are trying to adjust to having a husband, wife or child die.
I know this is kind of a downer post... but sometimes we have to face real life and see that no matter what is going on this site, when it comes down to it, we are pulled back into real life and dealing with that happens from day to day.

So to all of you who have lost someone close, be it a friend, co worker or family memeber... my thoughts, prayers and understanding go with you.

Sometimes we just have to sit and reflect on our life and how sometimes it is not as bad as we think it is compared to what others are going though.

Well I guess I have depressed everyone... LOL....

It is HOT, thinking about AC on the front porch or maybe ALOT of fans. I believe it is going to be that time of year that the only time to sit out here is the mornings or evenings.
Hope everyone is doing well.
