Our election was yesterday, but we may not know for up to 10 days who will form government because it was so close (something like 71 v 72 at this stage). Both sides are trying to schmooze independents to try and form goverment.

It was very sad to have our first female prime minister (a) not be elected to the position (b) come into power under a bad cloud of backstabbing - one day KEvin Rudd (aka Krudd) was PM, the next day Julia Gillard was and (c) possibly lose the election 2 months later. Ok, so she didn't get my vote, but hey.

So the funny thing - this is a movie trailer of the Aussie election: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qub4lWT6GNk - it has me in tears of laughter, but it may only be appreciated by fellow aussie's. Hopefully it got people to enrol and vote, as was intended.

Whole thing makes me want to assassinate Abbott and the entire media.

Yanno, there are times when I can't help but think that maybe that would be as good a way to run an election as any . . . Last candidate standing wins! :D

After all the boring, boring, BORING ads about what the other politicial party haven't done (but not mention of their agenda, oh no), I love it. Get the guns and leather out, take no prisoners and get the job done. If only!

There was a poll this morning about having another election, and about 63% said yes. I thought it was strange - are they going to change their vote? Are we that much of a swinger country ;)

So I'm lazy, don't have access to the TV and just don't really care to look for the answer to this question.

But...

Who did win? Or are they STILL deciding.

She did look pretty bad ass in that clip, I'd have voted for her. But I've always been preferential for leaders who could probably deal a nice punch to defend the country, not just speak in defense.

She did stab Kevin Rudd in the back...

I think there was a preferene expressed by the makers of the clip, because she got kitted out in sexy leathers, and they showed Tony in his budgie smugglers (that was actually him in his togs and not a body double :))

Maybe stock video was to good to pass up on that one. But no, there did seem to be a preference to making her look better. Not sure if it was their idea, or if it was purely to gain 'sex appeal' for the clip.

As I see it both Abbott and Gillard went to the election as opportunists. The policies the election was based on were those developed by Rudd. In spite of the fact that Rudd was shafted they could offer nothing better. Gillard showed she didn't really understand them and resorted, at times, to making herself a fashion model rather than a politician and Abbott chimed in with his athletics rather than politics. When they did venture into politics Abbott simply said "me too, but cheaper and we'll balance the books faster". I picked a hung parliament early, if the election had have gone a few days longer Abbott would have won- he was the one who looked interested and committed to the politics he was offering. I'm glad the parliament is hung- both Gillard and Abbott deserve to be watched very closely. The election should have been between Turnbull and Rudd, they were the ones who had policies based on vision. I think the next election will be soon and the election after that may well be between Turnbull and Rudd. In the mean time we will watch with interest the mechanations of the independents and Greens, who for a long time have been committed and had the integrity that the major parties could only hope for and dream about. I'm not saying that everything they advocate is right- only that they are there because they believe in what they are offering. Lets hope that in the mean time something workable will come into being where sincerity will prevail.

I think Abbott and Gillard have learned nothing - the public are sick of empty promises. Some of the independents are talking about a best person for the position from either major party, and for team playing be put aside in order to get the job done. I'm really sick of listening to all the crap. It was bad enough seeing the ads and interviews in the lead up to the election.

Agreed!

Can't agree more. Its time they worked out that its the electorate that needs to be served rather than the parties.
