I remember things like in my CB base radio. You know...way back in the last century. :D

.

I recently found out that Marconi's Wireless Company was funded by his mother's family - the Jamesons of Dublin. Whiskey and wireless - a combination certain to please HP!

Whiskey - yes.
There are those who doubt Marconi really did send a signal across the Atlantic; after all, he was the only witness to receiving the letter S, which is three dots. . .

There's a lot of talk about the early days of Radio; who did what, etc..

History is full of claims and counter-claims over inventions and famous "facts." In spite of what is presumed to be true based on what "we've always heard" there are countless claims otherwise. Everything from who invented the electric light bulb or the automobile, to who killed Lincoln and Kennedy or who was really behind 9-11 is fodder for "technical fact nitpickers" and conspiracy buffs alike.

Watch what happens when the newest Kenndy assassination files get released this week...especially since we all know that was the first murder Hillary got away with.

Prof Sir Oliver Lodge took Marconi to Court about some of the principles of tuning (among others). It took a Supreme Court decision in 1948 to finish the game (a 52 year delay!). We still do not know exactly how much Marconi's company paid, but it was substantial.

In 1893, Heinrich Gobel, a German watchmaker who had emigrated to New York, took Thomas Edison to court in a dispute over which of them had 'invented' the electric light bulb. Gobel won the case, and thus earned the right to be known as ‘the inventor of the electric lamp’. But Gobel’s invention never quite became a commercial reality. And Edison's kicked off General Electric. Sorry, Heinrich. Life's not always fair.

A similar thing happened with the Wright brothers over the patent for the airplane. The court cases and appeals dragged on so long that it was still in contention when Wilbur Wright died in 1912. He never had the satisfaction of knowing he won the battle two years later.

Ah - the power of advertising. . . .

No offense, but AAAARGH! This is why I quit playing in bands and got into the mortgage industry. It seemed that in the latter part of the 80s, there was almost nothing left to do but be in a 'hair band'. All the subtlety was gone, and what would eventually change that? Fucking Grunge. Double AAAARGH!

I think that's when I turned into one of those guys that didn't listen to anything new, and started doing this:

God, that brings back memories! I loved the German bands of that era - Tangerine Dream, Amon Düül II. A buddy turned me onto the Ralf Und Florian album, and I was amazed when these sort of 'background' music guys busted large on the charts with Autobahn (like The Beach Boys meet Moog).

This became one of my favorite 'Kraut-Rock' bands:

I remember listening to music at a youth hostel in Frankfort, Germany in June of 1971 when it was announced this song had just broken into the American Top Ten...

I was visiting a city once; One lunchtime we went to this interesting little club.
It was the day of the stripper [rather a surprise to me !].
Her chosen music was 'Indian Reservation'
She was a Very Pretty Girl, too. ;)

Very sexy woman - there's a reason why she's a fave of red-blooded men AND Drag Queens. I believe The Scotch Tape Company supplied the outfit.

A handsome woman, in no uncertain terms. But I often get to wondering quite WHY, her clothing designer sees fit to reduce her outfits.
She does not need that; she CAN sing !

During an earthquake? Maybe Shake, Rattle & Roll. :)

I guess that you'd need to be experienced in what an Earthquake feels like.
I've only experienced it once, and I can definitely say that the song "Shake, Rattle & Roll" is not likely to be in your ear when the ground shakes.
Maybe something falling off a shelf, but not music.
